Central Texas Power Plant Lakes Bass Fishing

Author: Captain Bo Berry | Posted: 10/14/2009

Man time fly's and each year it seems to go faster and faster. 2009 is coming to a close and what a year it was. Record heat waves occurred and all central Texas lakes are going dry. As of the time I am writing this article, central Texas is getting a lot of rain. The old saying holds true: "If you don't like the weather in Texas, just wait a day, and it will change."

Some things are changing for me as well.  One of which I look forward to is getting the opportunity to be on the Bass Assassin team. I have been fishing a lot of the soft plastic baits over the last couple of months.  I am very happy to report that these baits catch fish. One of my favorite baits has been the Hogg Assassin. I have Texas rigged it and I have Carolina rigged it with great success.  The Logger Toad has also been a good bait for me lately. I have been covering lots of water with the white and black flake Logger Toad on Fayette and it has produced very well for me also.

The month of November has historically been a good month on Fayette. The bass move up to feed before they spawn, which has happened as early as December on Lake Fayette. Last year the spawn happened in mid November so look for the beds if you are fishing Lake Fayette this November.

Lake Bastrop will also be going through a transition this time of year. The bass will be moving back to the grass in mid November. This makes finding the fish easier than it has been the past couple of months. I like to cover lots of water this time of the year with a Rattle Trap in Baby Bass color. This has been my go to color on Lake Bastrop for the last couple of years. When I get a couple of bites, I will slow down and fish a jig or Texas rigged worm. My jig of choice is a Conquest jig by Conquistador in green craw. I will also fish a 7.5" worm in Watermelon or pumpkin seed when I fish grass on Lake Bastrop.

Thanks Texas Outback Magazine for allowing me to continue to write about this sport that I love so much. I would also like to thank the folks that make this happen for me every day:  Bass Assassin, Tica Fishing tackle, Conquistador Tackle, Maxima Line, TTI-Blakemre Fishing Group, Kickin' Bass Fish Attractant and Rod Wrap for all their support.
