Fishing In The New Year by Keith Mixon (12/29/2009)During the month of January, there should be many opportunities for anglers to catch a wide variety of fish along the Florida's east coast. When fishing inshore, redfish as well as black drum should be willing to bite a variety of live and artificial lures along channel drop offs.
There is plenty of opportunity to catch fish in the winter months. Big gator trout move into the bays this time of season.
Don't let the Florida cold fronts keep you dry docked. With a little timing, there is plenty of opportunity to catch fish.
Snook season closes this month, however catch and release fishing can be good if it isn't too cold. Trout season remains closed in December in the south region but you might find them in potholes or around creek mouths. Reds should feed on shallow flats on sunny afternoons this month.
Oahu offers some of the best flats fishing in the world! Expect shots at tailing and cruising bonefish that average 4-8 lbs with a legitamate shot at the next world record. Trevally are also present and can get over 30lbs!
Using light tackle makes for great action when catching inshore species. Hooking a fish in open water you still have to take your time - let it run - tiring it out - then bring it in for the catch or release.
When you can't find the bait you want - don't give up. A little tip to help catch those fish even if things look bleak.
This is a great popper that can take a beating. I have been tying this pattern for I don\'t know how many years. I recently saw a version on Enrico\'s website where you can see a video on how to tie it as well.
