A sudden dip in temperatures and some days of strong winds have made fishing more difficult for the captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association, but certainly not impossible.

Between tropical storms and a series of northeasters, there have been large waves to fight on the ocean and much higher than normal tides in the bay waters inside Long Beach Island.

The "Miss Beach Haven" with Captains Brant Whittaker and Frank Camarda and fought the 4-6 foot waves last weekend for a steady day of action for its anglers. Mate Sal Rosa reports the action was constant on sea bass, weakfish, snapper blues, and a few fluke. Although most of the fish had to be returned as they were either out of season or too short, the anglers who made the trip enjoyed the constant action. The "Miss Beach Haven" will be out again this weekend trying to end the fluke season on an upnote.

Captain Lindsay Fuller on the "June Bug" had an offshore trolling trip over the weekend to the canyons and managed to put two yellowfin tuna in the box. The trip was originally slated to be an overnight combination chunking and trolling trip, but the fierce sea conditions nixed that plan.

Choosing a window in the bad weather, Captain Lindsay made the trip hoping to get in on some of the hot tuna and wahoo action that had been around earlier in the week. The rough seas made fishing difficult and resulted in only the two tuna and one false albacore being reeled in.
