The tropical type weather that has been afflicting the Beach Haven area has put a temporary damper on the fishing activities of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association. Hot humid weather with almost daily thunderstorms accompanied by high winds has made fishing a chancy proposition lately.

What makes the weather even more annoying is that there is a nice variety of fish available at the current time. To start with, the black sea bass bite on the inshore wrecks and artificial reefs has been nothing short of sensational. In addition, there are still a few striped bass being taken in the ocean.

Farther off shore, the canyon bite for tuna was just taking off while the shark catches closer to shore were marked by some big makos and threshers in addition to many blue sharks.

In the bay waters, the number of fluke being caught has dropped, but the number of good sized fish has remained constant. In addition there is an increasing number of weakfish being caught every day. These fish are ranging from 16-25 inches in length.

The night time shark fishery in the bay has snuck up on everyone. All of a sudden there are quite a few sharks around, mostly brown sharks. Some of these are well over 50-pounds and make up in fight what they lack in table fare.

As the 4th of July arrives and the weather finally breaks, look for the captains of the Beach Haven Charter Fishing Association to be leading the pack with some outstanding fish catches.
