Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Lenny Abraham from Brooklyn, NY with family and friends chartered the Happy Day Today Topshotfishing team to do some Fort Lauderdale fishing. With an overcast day, winds were out of the east, southeast at 5-10 mph, moderate chop.

We headed out to the buoy towards the Fort Lauderdale fishing grounds, which sits in 120 ft. of water, 1.8 miles from shore on the edge of the drop off. We had two plainers down, one with a double hook Bonito strip and a pink sea witch in front; the other with a double hook Bonito strip and a black and blue sea witch in front. For surface baits we had 5 Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos. It did not take long for the action to start. As I made the first swing around the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, both plainer rods went down, producing two Kingfish both in the 15 lb class, followed by hot and heavy action on the surface baits with five fish on at the same time. Having five fishing chairs in the cockpit made it easier for the anglers to bring in their fish. With Tunas, Bonitos and Kingfish in the boat, the anglers requested some Mahi Mahi's, so I went off shore from Fort Lauderdale and found a sargassum weed line with boards/bait fish in 800 ft. of water. After working the weed line for 45 minutes, it did not produce any fish, so I headed back to one of the artificial wrecks that produced fish in Fort Lauderdale FL. As I approached the wreck, the plainer rod tripped. Jackson, our experienced mate, knew immediately that the fish was not on and reset the plainer again. This time it tripped and the fish was on. It's a Sailfish!!!!!! He came leaping out of the water, as the sun gleamed on his neon body and continued exiting the water. Lenny retrieved the line and brought the Sailfish to the side of the boat; Jackson brought the Sailfish into the boat, pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released. With a total of 9 Kingfish, 4 Barracudas, and 16 Bonitos, along with the released Sailfish and tuna, it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316
