Prince Rupert, British Columbia - Saltwater Fishing Report
Chatham Sound
Stephen Hardie

Big tides this week. I think tomorrow is the biggest of the year. A whoping 24 foot drop in 6 hours. This makes for great fishing if you are in an area that the tide does not effect much. Big Bay is such a spot. The tide was quite strong and we needed 2 lbs. of lead to get to the bottom. We kept working the bait, changing up every 15 minutes with fresh stuff. Scent is everything, It took 2 hours for the first hit but after that we started pulling a few nice ones. The biggest of the day was 45lbs.

Fish Species: Halibut
Bait Used: Salmon parts and Herring
Tackle Used: #16 commercial circle hooks tied with 300 lb gangen line (green). We had to put
Method Used: Bait and Wait with Anchor down

Bio: 21 years guiding experience on the west coast. We specialize in catching large and agressive Salmon and Halibut. Welcome to the Deep Spring Charters home page. My company specializes in catching large and aggressive Salmon and Halibut. These are not our only targets though. I love seeking out Lingcod, Snapper and Rockfish where they live. These fish are not safe when I am on the water. It is not uncommon to have all my fish coolers filled to the top by the end of the day. I call this food gathering.
