Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

James Henric with his wife, Barbara, and friend Mark from Iowa chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing here in Fort Lauderdale, FL. We had winds out of the west, northwest at 12 to 15 mph, seas running 3-4 ft.

We stopped to purchase a dozen live Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. As I was passing the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale FL located in 120 ft. of water 1.8 miles from shore, I could see that there was very little current and the color of the water was not the best, so I headed towards one of our artificial wrecks located in 145 ft. of water. With little or no current, it is a good practice to do your fishing over some type of structure which is noted for holding bait fish and in return the predators. I set out two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one live Goggle Eye from the rigger.

While James was sitting watching the live Goggle Eyes from the kite splashing on the surface of the water, a Sailfish appeared on the left long kite. Dorsal fin out of the water attacking the bait immediately and exiting the water as he tail-walked towards the boat. James hopped into the fighting chair to do battle while his wife cheered him on. Then our line went slack, as the Sailfish set himself free. We set up again on top of the wreck and patiently waited for his arrival. Then the line from the outrigger snapped out as line exited the reel at a very fast pace. Mark was our angler – all of us taking guesses as to what type of fish would be at the end of the line. Finally, the fish rose to the surface and exposed his dorsal fin – a Hammerhead Shark – 8 ft. long. The battle began as line came in and out of the Shimano TLD 25 reel. Our mate, Jackson, grabbed the leader, pictures were taken and the Hammerhead Shark was released.

With a big smile on Mark's fact, the anglers retired into the a/c salon for the trip back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
