Fishing Fort Lauderdale on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Bob Gilbert and wife, Kathy, from Pennsylvania were vacationing in Fort Lauderdale, celebrating their wedding anniversary, and their gift to each other was a deep sea fishing charter aboard the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team. While still at the dock, they toasted each other's happiness with Mimosas, and afterwards we headed out on our fifteen minute journey to the drop off in 120 ft. of water by the sea buoy in Fort Lauderdale, FL less than 2 miles from shore. If you venture off another ¼ of a mile, you would be in 500 ft. of water due to the extreme drop off we have in Fort Lauderdale FL.

We have 36 artificial wrecks for fishing in Fort Lauderdale FL ranging from the depth of 64 ft out to 430 ft. varying from 30 ft. Chris-Craft molds to 500 ft. freighters. We headed out towards one of the artificial wrecks that sits in 220 ft. of water. We had two plainers down, both with double hook Bonito strips and sea witches in front, and two Bonito strips and two Ballyhoos for surface baits. Our first fish was from on one of our plainer rods. Kathy was the angler and she reeled in a Bonito. As I circled the wreck, one of the plainer rods went down again and this time Bob caught another Bonito. I headed towards another wreck, and ran across a floating plank, hoping there would be a Wahoo underneath it. But I was wrong because underneath the plank were Mahi Mahi's. Each time we made a pass, we hooked up with a Mahi Mahi – some of the Mahi Mahi's pulled the hooks and some we brought to the boat and into the fish box – we wound up with a total of 5 Mahi Mahi's – plenty of fresh fish for the dinner table tonight.

Everyone had a good time, but it was time to head back to the dock at Bahia Mar 801 Seabreeze Blvd. Fort Lauderdale 33316.
