Red fish are all over the place look around rocky/oyster beds, mangrove shore lines, creeks and coves with good water flow and of chores mullet schools are the best indicator for finding red fish. Top water lures in the morning will produce some exciting top water action, my go to lures are skitter walks, spooks and colors that work great are white, bone, mullet, trout, and chartreuse. Bait fishing is another productive way to target red fish, cut mullet, pin fish, green backs, and shrimp all work great at different times of the year. Right now cut mullet and pin fish are working the best. Use a 3/0 circle hook and a 25 to 30lb leader will do fine. Most of the reds right now are 19 to 26 inches.

Trout are making there way into the shallow grass flats 2-6 feet look for kelp beds when the water gets cold and around the mouth of springs for the warmer water. The trout are on grass flats with sand holes a top water lure is a great search bait for trout. There are many ways to fish for trout top water lures, suspending lures like the 17MR by mirr o lure, and the rapala twitch n rap are very good, soft plastic jerk baits, and the deadly combo which is a popping cork with a soft plastic bait under the cork. Bait fishing is great as well shrimp, pin fish, and green backs under a cork is fun for the kids. Most trout are ranging from 16 to 25" with a few monster trout showing up to 27".

Fall also marks our run of Spanish macks and cobia, look for bait schools around the flats for the macks. A silver spoon will get hit or a white jerk bait on a 1/4 oz jig head working it fast will get hammered. Cobia are hanging around the shallow water rock piles 10 to 15 feet, have a rod ready with a pin fish for some sight casting. Chum around the rocks and give it some time they just might show up, range marker, tr pods, wrecks & reefs will hold cobia just be carefully when putting the fish in the boat they are known for tearing up the boat and your legs.
