July/August are Hot Months on the Mosqutio Lagoon

July and August are great months to fish on the Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River Lagoon. Top water plugs such as the MirrOLure Top Dog, She Dog or Poppa Dog are great baits. I love the blue/chrome pattern and they can produce some awesome strikes. Top water plugs are a great way to start the day. Some anglers stop casting top water plugs when the sun is high. Don't let the sun cause you to put that top water plug away. Fish will crash them in the middle of the day. Jerk baits such as the Rip Tide Flats Chub work great also. Gold spoons and jigs are great also. Probably my favorite bait is that MirrOLure MR 17. It is a suspending twitch bait and it works great. Cut bait is always an option for big reds. Besides the redfish and trout, large schools of jack crevalle roam the flats terrorizing anything in their path. Jacks are great fighters.
