As the water temperature on Lake Texoma continues to cool, the striper fishing keeps getting better. Due to extreme summer temperatures this year, the fall bite has been pushed back a couple of weeks and I'm just now starting to see it really turning on. The surface temperature readings are around 72 ⁰ and the official water temperature is at 74⁰ compared to last year on 10/12/09 when the water temperature was already at 70⁰. When the water temperature finally falls in the 60's we should be catching limits on every trip.

The nasty weather and strong south winds that we had over the weekend were great! Not only did it scare off all of the boats, but it made for some of the best fishing yet this fall. Topwater fishing was awesome as is expected for this time of year and all of our big fish came in on topwaters. There are lots of big fish that have survived our annual summer fish kill and we brought in several fish in the 6-8 lb. range. Most all of the bigger fish have made it back to a healthy weight but are still a little on the skinny side while the fish under 20" are all fat and healthy. The birds have arrived in large numbers and which makes it easy for me, as well as everyone else to locate the fish. Using live bait drifting or on anchor under the birds in 15-40 ft. has been working well. If there are too many boats under the birds, you will be better off finding fish away from all of the boats. The big cats are moving in around the cleaning docks and we pulled in a 40 pounder on Saturday.

With a mild winter in the forecast and water temperatures above normal, we should have an awesome late fall and winter season ahead of us. Sassy shad season is just around the corner as more fish move into the deeper water. I love slow rolling sassys under the birds. The weekends book up fast so book your trip now at www.stripersinc.com or give me a call anytime at (903)815-1609 and I'll get you set up.
