Redfish and black drum schools are in great numbers hanging with each other the first couple hours of daylight. As the morning moves on the schools are breaking up into smaller pods. I fished Saturday with Jimmy and his friend Cleat from Atlanta Georgia. I started off the morning on my second cast hooking a bruiser of a red that must have been in the 20 pound class before coming loose......Jimmy was up next in the same school pulling in a 26 1/2 inch sweet fish. We ended the day as Cleat hooked the final fish, a slob of a "tournament" fish right at 27" just under the 8 pound mark. We boated 9 reds, mangrove snapper, jacks and had 1 snook come loose.
Snook season opens tuesday Sept. 1st with several being caught as of late in the slot limit. Seems to be plenty of snook to be had in our area this year as one of my clients got a 29" last week along with several others.
Tarpon are a rollin' and Sept. into early October should be on fire with the silver kings. Toss live mullet or go with a plastic swim bait that dives down 3 feet or less once located.
If you have any questions, as always feel free to call.
