Fishing report for Lake Michigan Milwaukee, Wisconsin 9/7/2006. There are two different patterns for you to fish for salmon and trout out of Milwaukee. The 4 year old mature Chinook are entering the north and main break wall gaps. Big kings are always fun and you should be able to hook up with some of the fish in the 15-25 pound class working these areas with magnum spoons in silver, silver/blue, silver/green on the sunny days. For overcast days definitely go with glow in the dark.

The magnum Reapers and Vulcans from Badgertackle.com have been our best producer. I usually start out with the glows and go to silver about 2 hours after sunrise. Another location where fishing has been excellent is out over 140 feet of water approximately 6 miles off shore. The temp you want to fish is 50 degrees and you must go near the bottom to find it. Depending on your boat speed you may need 150 to 170 feet of cable out on your downriggers to get there. Our best lure for them has been magnum spoons in silver/green, silver/blue or Glow in the dark. I like the Reapers or Vulcan magnums from badgertackle.com. Rotators and blue or green flies are also working. I like to run a mix of rotators and spoons. The rotators will attract the fish to your downrigger presentation. As always check the water temperature as the first thing you do. Find the 50 degree water and you will most likely find fish.

If you fish at first light you may find fish in the warm water above the temperature break to 50 degrees. When the water is above 50 degrees from top to bottom continue to deeper water in search of colder water for salmon. The boater's that don't care to run 6 to 8 miles off shore I would consider working the warm water for some Brown Trout or Rainbow action. Look for them from 25 to 85 feet in the top 40 feet as they like the warm water. Action here has slowed as the water temperatures keep going up. Good Luck!!
