Fishing Report, Lake Guntersville 2/2/08
Water Temperature Main Lake 46 degrees
Water Temperature creeks 42 degrees
This past Sunday and Monday started out like a typical pre-spawn pattern. The big fish were feeding we were catching numbers, with 25 plus pounds one day and over 20 fish a day. Then came Tuesday rain event and Wednesday’s high pressure and it went down hill from there. Thursday’s rain, Friday’s high pressure and we struggled for a bite again.
The big fish are moving with the right conditions, if not you better not miss the opportunities, as they have been hard to come by.
When it’s good the bass are hitting Tight-Line jigs in dark colors with small trailers by letting it fall and ripping it, Punisher Spinner baits in Ghost and Watermelon colors working it slowly over the humps, and small worms, and rattle baits. It just takes a little stability in the weather to have a great day.
I have concentrated fishing mainly up river as I do most of the time this time of year and found the ledges, ditches and humps holding bass and feeding for short periods of time during the day! You tournament fisherman for the upcoming BFL need to be patient and not lose focus as your bites will be few unless we get some warm weather quickly, the bass are there; you’ll have to work hard to catch them.
