Yesterday we had our 4 Spring Salmon to the boat in one and a half hours. All were medium size but real scrappers. My pal and I were trolling shallow at 25 feet in 36 feet of water. The Metlakatla pass is a shallow exit from the Prince Rupert harbor. It is also a main highway for winter spring salmon.

My method is simple, start at one end of the 2 km pass and troll out or in with the tide. Bites are less common when you are fighting the tide. If we get to the end of the pass with no bites we will pick up our gear and scoot back to the head of the pass and try it again. When we locate the springs a few figure 8ts around the area will usually produce some hits.

Today we will be using a red Hot Spot flasher (silver on both sides) and a Coho length leader with a Anchovy beak hook up (red). Shallow trolling at medium speed works best. Cheers

My company specializes in catching large and aggressive Salmon and Halibut. These are not our only targets though. I love seeking out Ling cod, Snapper and Rock fish where they live. These fish are not safe when I am on the water. It is not uncommon to have all my fish coolers filled to the top by the end of the day. I call this food gathering.
