Emergency Marine SSB Antenna (Sailing Navigation Radar) For Sale

Emergency Marine SSB Antenna (Sailing Navigation Radar)
Current Bid: $ 75.00

This Di-Pole style antenna is made specifically for the Marine environment with sealed connections and stainless steel hardware. This antenna is primarily designed to be an emergency back-up antenna. The beauty of it is that it's made to get your signal radiated out in the case of tuner or main antenna failure. It does not require a tuner or a groundplane. It is the perfect half-wave length for the 20 meter band, which would be 12mhz to 16mhz frequencies. Those are two of the SSB frequencies that have the chance to carry the furthest.  It can also be used on the 6mhz channels too. That would be:

                          6A, 6B, 6C, 12A, 12B, 16A, 16B on your SSB.

In the case of a lightning strike or demasting your going to wish you have this!

This antenna coils up nicely and fits in an easy stowable area, and doesn't take up hardly any room. Comes in a water tight plastic bag about the size of a normal book. Stretched out it is about 33 feet long plus a 9 foot coax connector to plug right into your SSB.

When your out there cruising be ready with a back up. Redundency is the key word here. No boat should ever leave shore with out a back-up antenna.

I know, we were hit by lightning, and if it were not for an antenna just like this we would have been out of contact for the next 11 days before we made landfall at Christmas Island, South Pacific. With this simple antenna we were able to let the Pacific Seafares Net know we were just fine, but had been hit by lightning and lost our SSB tuner. We also made other contacts with fellow cruisers, and if we needed to we could have called the Coast Guard. People were amazed that we were still 1,800 miles away and that our signal was still coming in strong. I have been a licensed ham radio operator since I was 14 and that was 1969. Thank goodness I had the skill to fabricate the perfect length antenna and within minutes after the lightning strike we were back on the air. This spare antenna is an inexpensive way to stay in touch in the case of a downed mast or a non-working tuner. I have designed this for the rigors of the offshore envirnoment. It's simple design and ease of use is so amazing that it should be as important as most other safety items that we all carry.

Pass the word, don't leave shore without one.
