New Arkansas State Park Visitor Center The new $5 million James A. Gaston Visitor Center at the 732-acre Bull Shoals - White River State Park on Bull Shoals Lake in northern Arkansas was opened in October, 2006. Located on a highpoint in the park, it offers spectaculor views of the White River, Bull Shoals Dam and Bull Shoals Lake below. It was named in honor of Jim Gaston of nearby Lakeview, owner of the renowned Gaston's White River Resort and a longtime supporter of the north-central Arkansas region. Bull Shoals Lake is Arkansas' largest, covering 45,000 acres, and the frigid White River below the dam is a premier trout stream famous for its record-sized rainbow and brown trout.
