F/V FLAMINGO SEATTLE - The Coast Guard escorted the crew of the 58-foot fishing vessel Flamingo back to port after their vessel began taking on water early Tuesday, March 27. The master of the Flamingo, homeported in Grays Harbor,Wash., contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 1:15 p.m., Tuesday, to report he had lost the ship's boom and the vessel's mast was broken while approximately 35 miles west of Grays Harbor. Weather conditions at the time are reported to have consisted of 35-knot winds and 12-15-foot seas. The Coast Guard Cutter Monsoon, based in San Diego, was on patrol in the area and was diverted to the scene. A small boat crew from Coast Guard Station Grays Harbor was launched as well and was released from the scene upon the arrival of the Monsoon. An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Astoria launched and reported the vessel was trailing a sheen in the water. The helicopter crew remained in the area until other Coast Guard units could arrive to assist. Views: 1710 Rating:
