Gimli, Manitoba, Canada On the west shore of Lake Winnipeg, an hour's drive from the city of Winnipeg, Icelandic immigrants settled Gimli in 1895. Its Historical Museum highlights fishing and farming, the two most important occupations of the immigrants.
