Cat Fishing in the Bonnet Carre' Spillway On Thursday May 8, 2008 Army Corps of Engineers employees dropped the last wooden "needle" into the spillway control structure. Recreational fishermen are still taking advantage of the bounty of fish that were pulled into the spillway after the spillway was opened for the 9th time since it was built. Most of the land that was totally inundated with water from the Mississippi river is now high and dry. Fishermen are now reeling in huge catfish that are now trapped inside the shrinking areas of water. Some of the fish are being caught in large dip nets where the current from the water still leaking into the spillway is passing through a channel where an area of the roadway dissecting the spillway was washed out. Louisiana Redfish Guide Nash Roberts IV This video is a quick review of our boat's take home catch of 30 reds and 46 trout (we released another 40-50 reds on two boats...the second boat also limitted out at 15 red/5 per angler). I've fished with the father/son duo of Nash Roberts III & IV of Fishhunter Guide Service since 1995. Every single charter has been an angler's dream, with limits achieved on reds and all the trout we want (up to the limit). On this last float, Nash IV took us to not just a trout spot, but one where "nice fat trout" usually hold. Fishunter is based near Port Sulphur, Louisiana about 50 minutes southeast of New Orleans.
