Mosquito Lagoon 002 10 Feb 2009 Mosquito Lagoon with Capt Jeff Dorobiala, Paul and Ron. It was early in the morning when Ron banged on the door and made me arise to watch the sunrise. No breakfast, No coffee waiting. We loaded up and proceeded to the water and met Jeff which was an enormous pleasure. While going out we were able to witness the sunrise which I share with you below. Needless to say, when we arrive on-site Ron personally selected the rods each of us should use and you can guess the rest of that story. For the day we caught 18 reds and 1 trout with the largest redfish being 32" long and weighting a little over 10 lbs. It was a great day of fishing and I thank Jeff for the pointers and can only look forward to going out again tomorrow. Paul I didn't pick the rods but I did show him how to fish!! Mosquito Lagoon 003 Feb 2009 With Capt Jeff Dorobiala Day Two: By David the jarhead. Not quite as much excitement today. No surprises that is. We decided to get started earlier today so we could be the first at the hole where Capt Dave clients pulled out over 90 Reds yesterday. The same places that we caught all three of our slot limit fish. So many boats were there that multiple fishing lines were a constant tangle. Not the case this morning. Mission accomplished. We arrived at the hole first and anchored the boat in the prime spot. The catching started almost immediately, mostly rats though. Just a few more rats and we put the first one in the cooler, a beautiful 25 inch red. Other guides and clients soon joined us but we had secured the prime spot. We kept pulling out Rat Reds but it wasnt quite as fast paced as yesterday. Just a few more rats and we hooked into our second keeper. In the cooled she went. Mullet minnows were around us by the hundreds. Jeff suggests that we net a few of them and head back to the Pocketbook and try to catch some mammoth Speckled Trout yesterday. He casted on the twice and netted all we needed. We arrived at the hole to find four other boats working it. This was not a problem here because this place was about a six acre flat with plenty of diversity on the bottom. This place had sandy spots, grassy patches, and shell shoals.
