White Pine Fire and Ice Show 2007 ELY, Nev.—What has quickly become a national event, the White Pine Fire and Ice Show, now in its third year, is a highly visual, two-day snow- and ice-sculpture competition followed by a fireworks display over a frozen, high-desert lake. The event was held January 13 and 14 at Cave Lake State Park, 15 miles southeast of Ely. The family oriented snow- and ice-sculptures stand up to 12-feet tall. While ice and snow can be brought to the lake for the event, all formations are created on site. The 2006 winner was a sculpture of a 27-foot-wide, big-horn sheep skull created by Jason McNutt of Ely. Other activities throughout the weekend include skiing, snowmobiling, ice-skating, ice fishing and the firing of a historic Nevada cannon. The White Pine Fire and Ice Show is sponsored by White Pine County Tourism and Recreation Board, the Nevada Commission on Tourism and the Nevada Division of State Parks. Views: 2701 Rating:

Courtright Reservior, Fishing, October 10,2008 It's a cool day on October 10th, 2008. In the morning, it was 25 degrees farenheit. On the water, elevation around 8,100 Ft, the wind was blowing, so it was really cool. I was having fun catching trout for a few hours. I finally had to leave, I was cold. Boy Scout T-506 1979 Sierra Trek Filmed in Super 8mm film during an August week in the Sierra Nevada, 1979. I believe this was my third Sierra Trek as a scout. Originally 19:01, it was excruciating to watch, and it wasn't shown much. I found it tedious to watch. Edited down to 6:43, it's just barely tolerable. And I think there is nothing cut that anyone would miss. Boy Scout Troop 506 in La Jolla went on Sierra Trek backpacking trips nearly every summer while I was a boy scout. This trip started at Courtright Reservoir and took place in the John Muir Wilderness between Kings Canyon and Yosemite National Parks. Courtright reservoir was drained for debris excavation the summer we were there. I recall this trip as the most beautiful mountain trip I had been on. Views: 235 Rating:
