Weare New Hampshire (NH) Real Estate Tour
http://www.wearenhrealestate.com -- Tour Weare, NH neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices. Weare, New Hampshire is a rural community at the western edge of New Hampshire's Merrimack Valley. Residents of Weare have long made an effort to preserve their illustrious history. Josiah G. Dearborn and Abner P. Collins each began collecting historical facts and family records about 1850, but a town history was not yet written. After years of waiting, a meeting was held at the town-house, March 1, 1882, to take measures to prepare and publish one. Weare's early settlers, as has been told, resided in log cabins. They procured their food by tilling the land, hunting and fishing. They were crude farmers. At first they could not plow their fields, by reason of the stumps and logs. They dug the soil and hoed in their seed with a clumsy hoe, made by the common blacksmith. But often farm products were scarce. Game from the woods and fish from the ponds, streams and Amoskeag falls were then a great help. In time, Weare developed a more sophisticated agriculture-based economy, though today the community is primarily residential in nature. Weare is home to Clinton Grove Academy, the first Quaker seminary in New Hampshire. Moses Cartland, who was headmaster for fourteen years, founded the school in 1834. Cartland named the village in which the Academy stands "Clinton Grove" in honor of DeWitt Clinton, chief sponsor of the Erie Canal. The original Academy served as a private high school. Students came from as far away as Ontario, Nova Scotia, Minnesota and Texas. In 1872, the Academy complex burned and classes were continued in the Quaker meetinghouse across the common until 1874, when the current building was completed. From 1877 to 1938, the Academy building served as a Weare district school. The building was also used as a meeting place for Girl Scouts and a women's organization. In 1934, during the occasion of the one-hundredth anniversary celebration of the Academy's founding, a bronze plaque was set in the boulder in the schoolyard with an inscription written by John Greenleaf Whittier about his cousin, Moses Cartland.

Goffstown New Hampshire (NH) Real Estate Tour
http://www.goffstownnhrealestate.com -- Tour Goffstown, NH neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices. Goffstown, New Hampshire is located in Hillsborough County in the southern section of the state. It is a community of 15,000 persons with a diversified business base. Goffstown is bordered by the following towns: Bedford, Dunbarton, Hooksett, Manchester, New Boston, and Weare. Among these towns, Goffstown is second only to the city of Manchester in population. Goffstown is a scenic community with twin mountains, forested hills, winding rivers, and an attractive New England village center. Recreational opportunities abound, including hiking, swimming, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, and ice skating. The town is just an hour's travel from Boston, Massachusetts, New Hampshire's White Mountains and the seacoast. Goffstown's proximity to major north-south and east-west routes, the state's largest airport, and southern NH's major municipalities and business centers makes it an attractive business location. Goffstown is a pleasant community in a convenient location -- an enviable place to live or work. Goffstown was incorporated on June 17, 1761 and is named for Colonel John Goffe, an early settler, soldier and civic leader. Goffstown was originally a farming community. The first settlers in the 1700s found the area magnificently forested, with hardwood on the hill and unexcelled stands of white pine on the "pine plains", which extended along Mast Road. This area was so named for the many pine trees suitable for ship masts, which were cut and hauled to the Merrimack River for use by the Royal British Navy. The first settlement was on the north bank of the Piscataquog River in what is now Grasmere Village, the seat of the town government for more than 100 years. Goffstown Village grew up around the falls on the Piscataquog River, where local industry developed because of the availability of water power. Pinardville developed rapidly in the era of the electric trolley car as a residential suburb for employees of nearby Manchester's mills. The steam railroad also played a part in creating the Town's nodular pattern of development, with stations at Grasmere, Shirley Station, Goffstown Village and Parker Station. To date, Grasmere, the Village, and Pinardville exist as three distinct areas of town.

Pembroke New Hampshire (NH) Real Estate Tour
http://www.pembrokenhrealestate.com Tour Pembroke, NH neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices. Pembroke, New Hampshire is a small, scenic town located near the state capital in Concord. Pembroke received its name from Governor Benning Wentworth in honor of the Earl of Pembroke, England. The word Pembroke means "head of the foam." In 1725, a group of Massachusetts colonists clashed with Native Americans in this area in an attempt to drive them out of the territory. The King of England granted land in the area to the survivors of the Indian war. In 1759, the Town of Pembroke was formally named and incorporated by Governor Wentworth. During the Industrial Revolution, a number of large mills were built along the banks of the Suncook River, just north of the Merrimack River. Three sides of Pembroke are defined by the course of three rivers: the Soucook, the Merrimack and the Suncook. These rivers and their tributaries have played an important part in the history and geology of Pembroke. Pembroke offers a remarkably diverse array of historic scenery and housing options. The urban center of town, historically known as Suncook, is located just north of the confluence of the Suncook and Merrimack Rivers. A wide variety of businesses occupy historic 19th century buildings along the tree-lined streets. Development along the main access corridor of Route 3 is characterized by large early New England homes. The Buck Street area of Pembroke is largely agricultural, with several old farms still operating along the floodplain of the Suncook River. The center and northern areas of Pembroke are noted for their sparsely settled development pattern. These areas are characterized by large house lots and a rural wooded environment. Pembroke's main formal recreation area is Memorial Field, located on a plain at the junction of the Suncook and Merrimack Rivers. The Recreation Commission offers a summer swimming and recreation program for the town's children. In addition, the town has constructed 4 tennis courts to be used by the school and the public. Pembroke is also home to Plausawa Valley Country Club, an 18 hole semi-private golf course open to the public. The Town of Pembroke features three conservation areas and a town forest. These areas are used for hiking, cross-country skiing, fishing and nature-watching. A number of regional recreational areas are located in close proximity to Pembroke. The Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown offers swimming, hiking, fishing, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Other state parks are located throughout southern New Hampshire, and the major four-season recreational areas of the White Mountains are just an hour's drive away.

Surrounded by rugged mountains and encompassing 288 miles of shoreline in eight different towns, Lake Winnipesaukee is the premier attraction of the region. Lake Winnipesaukee is nationally known for its annual Ice-Out Contest, in which people try to guess the earliest date that the Mount Washington can safely leave her port in Center Harbor and motor to four other ports (Weirs Beach, Alton Bay, Wolfeboro, and Meredith). Since records began in 1851, ice-out has happened as early as March 29 and as late as May 12, although 90 percent of the time it is declared in April. Summer brings plentiful options for swimming at Lake Winnipesaukee's nine public beaches, while other popular water sports include boating, waterskiing, canoeing, and fishing. Numerous hiking trails wind through the surrounding Ossipee and Belknap mountain ranges, and New Hampshire's majestic White Mountains are just a half hour's drive north. Residents and vacationers alike enjoy excellent skiing at Gunstock Mountain Resort in Gilford, majestic vistas at Moultonborough's Castle in the Clouds, numerous shops and restaurants in Laconia, Meredith and Wolfeboro, and nearly a dozen golf courses throughout the region.
