The Skokie lagoons, Winnetka The lagoons are stocked with bass, walleye, northern pike and more, making for what some fisherman say is one of the best spots in Illinois. The lagoons were created from a marshland as one of the largest Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) projects of the 1930s. They're now one of the most beautiful recreational sites in the Chicago area. Lone Lake in Island County This lake has come to be my early spring lake. It warms fairly fast and can provide some good fishing at times. The wind can be a problem so be aware for the lunch-time blow. Mike Lone Lake (92 acres): Occupying a broad meadow area 2 miles southwest of Langley on Whidbey Island, Lone has a large WDFW access on the north shore and is open year-around. Trout fishing can vary widely from year-to-year due to cormorant predation. Table quality of the trout is best in spring and fall when the water is cooler. Use large-fish methods here: salad shrimp bait, leech wet fly patterns, and large lures. From: Bill Flerx Lone lake is now a year round lake and Selective fishery with a 1 fish (18") limit. Power bait, nightcrawlers, salmon eggs, marshmallows, cheese baits are all prohibited now and alerting the public to these facts could save some unsuspecting angler from a WDFW fine, not to mention helping to keep some of the quality fish in this fishery. Launch of "Fishing in the City" April 12th, 2008 news release by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC: VANCOUVER -- Lower Mainland residents will be able to enjoy three unique urban fishing opportunities this spring and summer thanks to the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC's new Fishing in the City program. "We know that sometimes it's difficult to get out of the city to go fishing, so this year we're bringing enhanced fishing opportunities into the city," said FFSBC Vice-President Brian Chan. As part of the Fishing in the City program, the FFSBC will be conducting enhanced trout stocking activities at Rice Lake in North Vancouver and Lafarge and Como lakes in Coquitlam. These repeated stocking activities will ensure that the three lakes offer excellent fishing opportunities for shore-based anglers throughout the spring and early summer, and again in the fall. Working in partnership with local governments, the FFSBC will also erect special on-site signage providing additional information to anglers. "While the society stocks dozens of lakes across the Lower Mainland, we hope that these three lakes will offer new fishing opportunities for young and novice anglers or those who want to get back into the sport" said program coordinator Stacy Webb. "Children under the age of 16 can fish for free, and we've even reserved fishing at Como Lake for children and seniors." Adults can purchase a freshwater licence at their local tackle shop or buy one on-line. For fishing tips and tricks and lake stocking information in the Lower Mainland please contact the Fraser Valley Trout Hatchery Visitor's Centre at 604-504-4716 or visit us online. --------------------------------------- The launch featured a Learn to Fish session with 40 scouts and girl guides, followed by the release of 300 rainbow trout. The day finished off with a short fishing session on the floating dock. Big Wally's Walleye Fishing Join MrsDigiot, Gordon and PappyStu on Banks Lake in Coulee Country fishing for Walleye... Winter is a great time to reflect on the seasons that have past. It seems that winter is the longest of all seasons and I sometimes wish my life away hoping that spring will come. Standing on the hillside overlooking the wind-blown river, I feel the chill of winter in my bones like the nagging ache of persistent flu. Whitecaps march in uneven rows, blown southward to their deaths on a rocky shore. The sky is ghost-gray, with scudding low clouds moving rapidly across the frozen, uncaring terrain. I imagine what it would be like to be on the water at this time fishing some wind blown walleyes. Walleyes in the wind is not a subject that you read about everyday. Most fishermen probably won't go out on windy days because they can't control their boats or they can't feel the jig on the bottom. Walleyes in the wind can and does produce walleyes and sometimes the best walleye fishing comes when it is windy. Wind also has an effect on light penetration. The wind creates waves, and waves cut down on light penetration. That's why you'll find walleyes on a shallow reef on a bright day if it's windy. Take the same reef on a bright, calm day, and frequently it will be devoid of fish. I generally start looking for walleyes on the wind-blown side of the lake, and the wind-blown side of a structure. Walleyes will usually be most active on the side of the lake or reservoir that the wind is blowing into because that's where light penetration is reduced. On a given piece of structure the same will hold true with baitfish being disorientated because of wave action. This is a key area, because the predators will congregate at the outside edge and feed on the baitfish. However, keep in mind that a good walleye structure that is not windblown will still be better that a poor walleye structure that is not windblown. Walleyes are opportunistic fish and will go where the meal is the easiest to catch. There are some wind directions that I prefer over others. It seems that north, northeast, and northwest winds can have detrimental effect on fishing success. They usually indicate a coming change in weather. Winds coming from the northwest are a good indication that a cold front is pushing across your favorite fishing hole. In the spring and fall this usually turns the fish off and the bite is very slow. Winds from the south or southwest are frequently good fishing winds. They bring warmer air, which can be a good deal in the spring and fall. They are commonly known indicators of stable weather conditions. As I mentioned before boat control is always a problem in the wind. With a little practice and a drift sock you can control your boat even on the toughest structure. Backtrolling downwind is also possible and necessary on some days, when your boat doesn't rock so much in waves. This reduces the jigging action of your bait, and at times, walleyes are turned off by too much vertical action. The Tournament Series Drift Control sea anchor acts like a big tail. You get excellent boat control by going with the wind and easing the throttle in and out of gear. When fishing a windy, unprotected point, one option is to deploy two sea anchors and drift the tip. But a better option might be to use only one bag off the bow and backtroll into the wind to cover both the tip and each inside turn. Be sure to tie the bag on the bow eye, not on a side cleat. The position where you tie off is critical to control. You should experiment with your positioning of the sea anchor, and how it affects your boat, before launching out into gale force winds. Along with that, if you fish with a partner, you both should get used to fishing in and around a bag. If your partner doesn't reel in the bag when you have a tournament winning walleye on, it can be disastrous. Practice with the bag, as well as with the positioning of the tie off rope on your boat. Consider wind direction, but don't stay home just because the wind is blowing from the north. The wind is a tool you should use just like your rod, boat or your depthfinder. In conjunction with all these tools the wind can be a useful, tool so you can experience more success. by Bob Riege http://www.walleyehunter.com/articles/riege10.html Views: 4111 Rating:

Harbor Town-Original Song by Tom Cellie about New England Growing up in New England was the best! I have lived in Kansas City for 11 years and it has been ages since I went home. I lived just blocks from the ocean in a town called Beverly just 8 miles south of Gloucester which has a major fishing industry. I spent many weekends driving up the coast to Gloucester and points north. It's literally like a postcard and I wanted to put that postcard into a song. I hope this song gives a visual of what its like in New England at winter. This is a live run with MANY mistakes. Please forgive the dingers on the guitar, when I get inspired for the words I need to record them in a hurry so as not to forget the the melody and embellishments. So maybe one of these days this song will really be produced,,,until then...its just another ugly baby ;-) Click "read More" for the lyrics The main pavilion's frozen The sidewalks all covered in snow Made dirty by the people that come and go living lives they wished were different passing by with no commitment The harbor in this sleepy town resonates with familiar sounds as the heartbeat of the northern coast calls the fisherman to board their boats and a bittersweet dawn lights the frozen ground for the people in this place called harbor town Well at least we got the seasons Cept the winters here can get as cold as hell and the jobs ran so far back I can't tell But I'd never leave for nothing cause at least our history's something The salt air in this frozen town drapes the people like a royal gown and life plays out another day as the jetty breaks the crashing waves and the sea just keeps on soaking hallowed ground for the people in this place called harbor town The harbor master can't come faster Cause he's in a no wake zone Let the lighthouse lead you home Though his light is growing dim and thru your gray sky don't you ask why keep fishing for the truth when there's nothing you can do Just let the fog roll in The main pavilions frozen Ice hangs from gables facing east like an artist mother nature paints the streets She's been working hard for centuries But on the boulevard there's new dreams The sun sets on this vital town and cold winter puts the hammer down as the night embraces frozen pine like it has before a million times and colonials cook the supper that they found from the sea that pounds the coast in Harbor Town In Harbor Town Harbor Town Views: 2800 Rating:

Morocco - Agadir - TV Traveller Agadir is a city in southwest Morocco. The city is located on the shore of the Atlantic Ocean. Agadir is an important fishing and commercial port. It is also a famous seaside resort with a long sandy beach. Algeria borders Morocco to the east and southeast though the border between the two countries has been closed since 1994. There are also four Spanish enclaves on the Mediterranean coast: Ceuta, Melilla, Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, Peñón de Alhucemas, and the Chafarinas islands, as well as the disputed islet Perejil. Off the Atlantic coast the Canary Islands belong to Spain, whereas Madeira to the north is Portuguese. To the north, Morocco is bordered by and controls part of the Strait of Gibraltar, giving it power over the waterways in and out of the Mediterranean sea. The Rif mountains occupy the region bordering the Mediterranean from the north-west to the north-east. The Atlas Mountains run down the backbone of the country, from the south west to the north east. Most of the south east portion of the country is in the Sahara Desert and as such is generally sparsely populated and unproductive economically. Most of the population lives to the north of these mountains, while to the south is the desert. To the south, lies the Western Sahara, a former Spanish colony that was annexed by Morocco in 1975 (see Green March). Morocco claims that the Western Sahara is part of its territory and refers to that as its Southern Provinces. Views: 594739 Rating:

Merrimac Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour http://www.merrimacmarealestate.com Tour Merrimac, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices. Merrimac, Massachusetts takes its name from the river that surrounds its southern boundary, but it is unclear why they do not share the same spelling. Purportedly derived from the name of the tribe that originally inhabited the river's shores, "Merrimac" or "Merrimack" means "swift water place". Merrimac was first settled by Europeans in the late 1650's, and the colonists' main crop was corn. As the town grew, Merrimac emerged as a center for maritime trade, with salmon fishing, sturgeon fishing and shipbuilding emerging as staple industries. Situated between the thriving seaport communities of the North Shore and the industrial corridor of the Merrimack River Valley, Merrimac also acted as a distribution point for sugar and molasses from the West Indian trade. By the 1800's, the principal industry was carriage making, with as many as thirty-one different carriage factories operating in Merrimac at one point. The late nineteenth century left its mark with charming red brick buildings that now house a number of contemporary businesses - service, retail and restaurants. As small industries receded in the 20th century residents found employment in neighboring cities, and by the Second World War Merrimac was principally a residential community. Merrimac occupies nine square miles, most of which is residential with typical small town New England flair. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com . West Tisbury Massachusetts (MA) Real Estate Tour http://www.westtisburymarealestate.com Tour West Tisbury, MA neighborhoods, condominium developments, subdivisions, schools, landmarks, recreational areas, and town offices. West Tisbury, Massachusetts sits on beautiful Martha's Vineyard, the world-renowned island and vacation spot off the coast of Massachusetts. West Tisbury has all the hallmarks of a classic New England village, with a white church, general store, post office, old mill, rustic countryside farms and sparkling ponds. It was the rushing streams of the area that originally attracted settlers to West Tisbury, as there was no stream in nearby Edgartown strong enough to dam for a water wheel. The early grist mills gave way in 1847 to the manufacture of satinet, a heavy fabric for whalemen's jackets made from island wool. The Congregational church on State Road is always open to visitors. Solid and settled as it now looks, even this structure did not escape the Islanders' penchant for moving buildings around. The original churchyard, where the first settlers of the town are buried, is about a quarter of a mile down the road. Near the church is the Dukes County Academy building, now West Tisbury's Town Hall. Next to that is the famous old Agricultural Hall, site of the Farmer's Market and other events in the summer. Several of West Tisbury's antique homes were originally built as inns, back when a trip from the down-island ports to Gay Head or Chilmark was a long haul over sandy roads. Across the little pond from the old inn is a house built by the son of Miles Standish in 1668. Captains owned the largest houses in town, and some of the finest are still occupied by their descendants. Several captains' houses can be found on Music Street, given its name after a number of its families purchased pianos with new whaling money. The Lambert's Cove settlement has its share of fine homes and a charming white church. The cove was once a place of anchorage for the town of West Tisbury. The area housed clay works, salt works (needed for the herring which were exported), and extensive trap fishing operations. All this has since vanished. Even the road to the harbor is gone. A woodland path leads to the beach, which is now set aside for year-round and summer residents of West Tisbury. Other points of interest include the Cedar Tree Neck Nature Preserve and the Christiantown Memorial to the Praying Indians. Cedar Tree Neck may be reached from the Indian Hill Road. It is a matchless piece of unspoiled Vineyard woods with a freshwater pond and brooks, bounded by North Shore Beach. Picnics, fishing, and bathing are not permitted here, but there are marked trails for those who appreciate the opportunity to watch birds, follow woodland paths, and walk along a quiet shore. The Memorial is located off Christiantown Road. Here one may see a tiny chapel, a pulpit rock where services were held for the Wampanoag Indians in the 17th century, and the rough small burial stones of these first converts. The Martha's Vineyard Garden Club has planted a wildflower garden nearby. For other town tours visit http://www.virtualhomes.com . For towns in MA visit http://www.ma-virtualhomes.com .
