USCG comes to the aid of sinking fishing boat VIDEO: The Coast Guard assisted a 43-foot Gloucester, Mass., based fishing vessel with three people aboard that was taking on water and in danger of sinking just outside of Gloucester Harbor about 5:40 p.m. Oct. 4, 2006. An HU-25 Falcon jet from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Mass., which was conducting routine patrols in the area, arrived on scene 10 minutes later and lowered a de-watering pump to the Josephine. A compartment in the back of the vessel was completely full of water, and there was only one foot of space between the waterline and the rear deck of the boat. The cause of the flooding is unknown at this time. The Coast Guard Cutter Tigershark, homeported in Newport, RI, with the help of a 41-foot utility boat and a 25-foot response boat from Station Gloucester, escorted Josephine into Gloucester Harbor, where it safely moored about 6:52 p.m. No injuries were reported.
