Fishing for Hummers Retrieving a Hummer from the bottom of a frozen lake in North Dakota... Uncle Frank was out ice fishing with his family and they drove over a part of the lake that has warm springs under it(there were no markings or warnings) and the front end went through the ice. Frank and his family were able to get out quickly before the entire thing went through the ice narrowly escaping. Thankfully no one was hurt but it was a close call. 2 days later he had to return to get the Hummer from the bottom of the lake. It is the law that you must retrieve the vehicle. It was covered by insurance. We had no idea how to get a vehicle from the bottom of a frozen lake so I went along to document it. It was quite a process as you will see. I am used to living in Los Angeles so I had a lot of trouble being in that extreme cold. Grandpa was drilling holes to ice fish while we waited and he worked up quite a sweat. California Fishing, Shad, Trout, Bass and more This video is a montage of different fishing trips including the Feather River, Loon Lake, Ice House and some of the wildlife we have seen along the way. There are also a few stills from a couple trips on board the New Huck Finn in the San Francisco Bay that we took while our boat is being worked on. The Shad fishing was done above Shanghai Falls on the Feather River. The Bass were also on the feather, I was happy to get my oldest daughter out for the day, it was the first time in years! Wonders of San Francisco #3: Cliff House and Ruins of Sutro Baths Third in a series of short place films of San Francisco. The Sutro Baths opened March 14, 1896 with a $1 million pricetag — an extravagant public bathhouse envisioned and developed by the eccentric one-time mayor of San Francisco, Adolph Sutro. The building housing the baths burned down in 1966 and was abandoned. The ruins may still be visited. The Cliff House, adjacent to the ruins of the Sutro Baths, is a famous San Francisco landmark. The first (1863) and second (1896) Cliff Houses burned to the ground. The current and third Cliff House was built in 1909 and has been recently remodeled. The Last Herring Fishers of San Francisco Bay In September, San Franciscos commercial herring fishermen were told that this year, for the first time ever, their season has been canceled. Herring are disappearing from the Bay, and no one knows why. Possible causes: El Nino, a 2007 oil spill, overfishing. Whatever the reason, the Fish and Game commission says herring need time to recover. But herring fishermen say their jobsand a 100-year old Bay traditionare being tossed away. It carries approximately 270000 vehicles per day. Conceived as early as the gold rush days, construction on the bridge did not begin until 1933. Designed by Charles H. Purcell, it opened for traffic on November 12, 1936, six months before the Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge consists of two major bridges connecting each shore with Yerba Buena Island, a natural outcropping located mid-bay.
