Coast Guard Assists Sinking Fishing Vessel SAVANNAH, Ga. - A Coast Guard Air Station Savannah aircrew provided critical dewatering equipment to a sinking fishing vessel Thursday evening in Sapelo Sound, Ga. The fishing vessel Amanda Ranae was approximately eight miles off the coast of Sapelo Sound when its two passengers noticed it was taking on water. The captain of the vessel contacted the Coast Guard at approximately 5:40 p.m. and quickly made for shore. He decided to beach the vessel in Sapelo Sound to prevent it from further sinking. The Coast Guard immediately launched an HH-65 helicopter out of Air Station Savannah to provide assistance. Once on scene, the rescue crew delivered a dewatering pump and a rescue swimmer to the vessel. The leak was later located, fixed, and the Amanda Ranae was able to get underway. A Coast Guard small boat from Coast Guard Station Brunswick, Ga., was launched to escort the fishing vessel to a safe mooring location. Views: 10201 Rating: (2 ratings)

03APR07: Coast Guard Assists Fishing Vessel Taking on Water JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Coast Guard search and rescue crews assisted a fishing vessel taking on water in St. Andrew Sound near Brunswick, Ga., this afternoon. The Fran and Lloyd, a 78-foot fishing vessel from Brunswick, radioed to the Coast Guard at approximately 2: 50 p.m. that they had three-to-four-feet of water in the engine room and needed assistance. Coast Guard crews from Air Station Savannah and Station Brunswick launched to assist the two men aboard the vessel. The helicopter crew from Savannah arrived on scene first and lowered a de-watering pump to help stabilize the fishing boat. The small boat crew from Station Brunswick arrived shortly after and escorted the vessel to Brunswick Landing Marina. The Fran and Lloyd was able to return to shore under its own power and discovered that the water was coming from a fresh water pump on board the vessel. Views: 2713 Rating: (2 ratings)
