Though the surf at Bondi Beach in the distance appeared to be pumping, I reckon I caught the wave of the day. Though "out the back" can have a tad more urgency when you're rock fishing, than when you're surfing, both scenarios can end with you being the filling in a "wave sandwich". As young kids in the local surf club, we'd come here to body surf bigger waves than these, back into the deeper waters behind where we fish. I knew the tides, the wind, the swell, I watched it for 1 hour. There was a ground swell, so there was always that possibility it could get lumpy, even though the tide was well on the way down. Accordingly, I told the others not to fish unless I gave them the nod ........ and the rest you saw. The freak set I said could be a possibility, became a reality, so rather than surf it effortlessly to the deeper pool behind, I instead confronted it and saw it through. Big jewfish Mulloway Caught in Sydney Freddo's Big Mulloway or Jewfish caught in Sydney, Parra river, Nearly 10KG and 1 Meter! This was on 20lb line and 5kg leader!!! The illusive deceptive Almighty Holy grail of fishing has been conquered. Location is quite unbelievable, so if i said it was Duck Creek in Auburn (NSW) it wouldn't be too far off... Ironically it was not in Bondi. For bait we used a $50 note, Jewfish will take any money, but $50 is highly enticing for a big jewy that has accumulated everybody's money. The rumours about me staying up 40 days and 40 nights to catch jewfish are entirely true... I know some people have lost their lives doing this in my footsteps. I must give a huge Commendation to my Fellow fisherman Amir AKA eplix, afterall it was his Rod and Hectic Reel that i was using. Let me not forget to thank the mysterious man in that you could hear in the background, he was highly informative only known as Micheal he Gave us supersticious tips about how to target this fish.
