Santa Fe BNSF crossing St. John's River/Lk Monroe Drawbridge This is my first chase of a train. After filming it in Downtown, I headed up Interstate 4 to Sanford. I stopped at the park just west of the Eastbound I-4 off ramp, a great boating/fishing location on the river. After watching an Amtrak head north, along came the subject of my favorite video yet. Manatees at Blue Spring Florida Manatees in the warm spring waters of Blue Spring State Park, Florida. Our vacaton side trip when we watched the space shuttle launch(sts 122, SEE MY VIDEO!), and Wow !! To see a Manatee up close, you must visit this place during thier wintering months (see below information from the State Park Site). "The largest spring on the St. Johns River, Blue Spring is a designated Manatee Refuge and the winter home (mid-November through March) to a growing population of West Indian Manatees. For centuries, the spring area was home for Native Americans. In 1766 it was visited by Colonial American botanist John Bartram, but it wasn´t until 1856 that it was settled by Louis Thursby and his family. The Thursby house, built in 1872, remains standing. The spring´s crystal clear, 73 degree water can be enjoyed by swimmers, snorkelers, and certified scuba divers with a partner. COAST GUARD, NAVY RESCUE MISSING FISHERMEN JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Coast Guard has rescued two fishermen at 2:30 p.m. 70-miles east of the mouth of the St. John's River, Fla., after their emergency position indicating radio beacon activated 40-miles northeast of Ponce de Leon Inlet, Fla., yesterday at 10 a.m. Duane Grove and Robert Christenson are from the 35-foot fishing vessel Biggin, a long liner out of New Smyrna Beach, Fla. Coast Guard rescue coordinators in Miami at Coast Guard District Seven and Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville received a signal from the Biggin's EPIRB indicating that the vessel was in distress. Coast Guard rescue coordinators launched two Coast Guard helicopters, a Coast Guard C-130 fixed wing aircraft, diverted the Coast Guard Cutter Shrike and launched a rescue boat two search the area where the signal was picked up. As the search wore on, Coast Guard rescue coordinators enlisted help from the Navy. The Navy searched with a Navy Fixed wing P-3 orion aircraft and several helicopters last night and tonight. The Navy P-3 from Naval Air Station Jacksonville located the fishermen's life raft 70-miles east of the mouth of the St. Johns River. A Coast Guard helicopter arrived on scene and hoisted the men to safety. The men were suffering from mild hypothermia and were transported to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department EMS at Craig Municipal Airport at about 3 p.m. Views: 10596 Rating: (5 ratings)
