Rob Vodola Kalum River Steelhead
April 6, 2008. Hugh Ormerod, Rod Vodola and I went fishing on the Kalum River today. We were the only boat on the river. The water is very, very low and we could only fish one good pool. That pool was kind to us as we each landed a Steelhead. Mine was a big male in very good shape around 17-20-pounds. Rob's fish was a bright female around 16-pounds. Hugh's fish was a small male around 5-pounds. We hooked at least six Steelhead and landed three in a very short day. We started at 9 AM and finished at noon. We also hooked a few Cutthroat Trout and Dolly Varden. So the action was good considering the conditions. I shot a video clip of Rob's fish and will edit and post it on the website soon. I also got some great still photos. This is the lowest water level (for this time of year) I have ever seen on the Kalum in all the years I have been fishing it. The water is usually at least three to four feet higher and a dark green colour. Oh well, nothing we can do about conditions, just adjust to them. I was fishing on the Kalum River on September 29, 2008 with my friends Henry Waszczuk, his wife Mary and Rob Vodola. We were targeting Coho and we found them. It's been about 15 years since I have fished with Henry. We have done many professional TV fishing shows together in the past and it was an honour to fish with him again and shoot this short clip. Chad Black demos FLY TYING
Fly fishing on the Skeena River is RED HOT right now and one can go through a lot of flies. Therefore you need to tie a simple fly quickly. Chad Black is a pro fly caster with both spey and single hand fly rods...and he also really knows his stuff when it comes to fly tying. In this clip Chad shows a simple but effective pattern he calls Skeena River Series. This one is tied in "bold" RED. The video clip is not cut or edited and shows it takes only about 2 1/2 minutes to tie. If you wish to learn more about fishing in my area SUBSCRIBE to my WEEKLY FISHING REPORT via e-mail. Skeena River Guided Flyfishing Coho & Sockeye DOUBLE-HEADER
The date is August 15, 2008 and I am at the Nicholas Dean Lodge "out-post" camp on the Skeena River near Terrace BC. Flyfishing has been good for Coho, Sockeye, Pink Salmon and Steelhead (even though the water came up over the last couple of days)...PLUS the wild Steelhead. This video clip shows the true potential of this fishery with a double-header on Coho and Sockeye. This was one of the easiest videos I have ever edited...because I did not edit...what you see is the raw footage from beginning to end. I was shooting for about 4 hours today and got three clips including another double-header on two Sockeye and a beautiful wild Steelhead. The lucky anglers on this clip are Chris Gilles and Mark Bove. The fishing guides are Dale Smith and Connor Sabo. Good job guys! Noel Gyger Kalum River Steelhead
My friend Chad Black was fishing with his spey fly rod and within ten minutes landed a nice Steelhead. In the "olden days" I used to fly fish but lately have taken up the spin rod. Luck was on my side today as I worked a nice run on the Kalum River and POW a nice female Steelhead "makes my day". I need to thank Chad for shooting some video...it is usually me who shoots the video. We had a GREAT DAY! We really did not fish that long about 3 or 4 hours. This one fish will keep me "buzzed" for the whole week:-) If you wish to learn more about fishing in my area SUBSCRIBE to my WEEKLY FISHING REPORT via e-mail. Skeena River Chinook
I was working away on my computer when I got a call from Randy Marshall. He said he had a few hours of free time to fish and invited me to come along. I was pretty busy (you know computer stuff) but after a little coaxing I took Randy up on his offer. We spend only a few hours on the river, it was slow acccording to Randy, but we did manage to land this nice one. Randy insisted I pose with the fish, so I did. Randy said the day before it was RED HOT on this same spot. Not today, but I guess that is fishing. Fighting Dog Fish
Fishing for salmon on a fly, a person should never forget how much fun you can have fighting a twenty pound Chum Salmon on a fly Rod. They fight, jump, big runs and don't get tired. Bring an 8-10 wt rod, they are known for breaking rods if you aren't careful.

MASSIVE Skeena River Steelhead landed on fly
Today, I am the luckiest person in the world to shoot a video clip of this MASSIVE Skeena River summer-run wild Steelhead caught on a "tiny" fly...and I mean tiny...and after a fight of over half an hour the lucky angler, Chris Gilles, just gave him a kiss and threw him back. This was his first Steelhead ever landed. WOW to be so lucky. If you wish to learn more about fishing in my area SUBSCRIBE to my WEEKLY FISHING REPORT via e-mail. MASSIVE Skeena River Steelhead landed on fly

Steelhead HOG
My friends Rob, Derrick and I went fishing on the Kalum River November 3, 2008. We had a great day! The weather was perfect. I think Rob landed five Steelhead. I landed two. We lost a bunch more. Derrick landed a "fire engine" Coho. Plus we landed another couple of clean doe Coho and a few S.I.T's and local Trout. We believe the Steelhead in this clip weighed over 20-pounds. I had a little luck and landed the last fish of the day before we headed back home. That fish was another big buck weighing over 20-pounds. Two Steelhead over 20-pounds in one day...NOW...that "is" what I call GREAT Steeheading! If you wish to learn more about fishing in my area SUBSCRIBE to my WEEKLY FISHING REPORT via e-mail.
