White Rock BC and the Famous White Rock The White Rock, from which the town received its name, is a large boulder of white granite, an erratic left over from the days of the glaciers. Since White Rock was founded, the boulder has received a few coats of white paint, usually from the local graduates. The wharf (pier, boardwalk, whatever you want to call it) extends into Shemiamoo Bay about a half kilometre or so. At the end are a lot of people fishing, but mostly crabbing (throwing in crab cages and attempting to catch dinner). Views: 237 Rating:

Ocean Boating around Garry Point Park, BC with BOOMER A short video of boating on the Pacific Ocean. We launched the boat at the bottom of #2 Road in Richmond BC. We did some fishing, crab trapping and exploring. At one point, a huge freighter passed in the distance and about 10 minutes later, I saw this huge wave coming at us within seconds! I scrambled to get into the drivers seat, start the boat and turn full throttle into the wave just as it broke! We got hit with a 10 foot wave! It crested over the bow of the boat and soaked us and everything in our boat in 1 second flat! It was the first time I saw the automatic bilge pump light come on! Scary. I immediately turned the boat towards shore and full throttled it! We got to shore safely and sat at a dock allowing all our clothes and sleeping bags to dry out. Luckily it was a scorching hot summer day. Once dried out, we headed out "to sea" again. This time keeping the shore within site. We cruised around, set a crab trap and enjoyed the day. After a bit of night cruising close to Garry Point Park, we docked the boat and slept on the awesome sleeper seats zipped up for the night. The next day was a bit of fishing and much more exploring. It was awesome! Views: 2009 Rating:
