Sen. Jon Tester, Gov. Schweitzer endorse Barack Obama
Last night, Senator Jon Tester impishly threw Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer's name into the ring as a potential VP choice...The first time I heard Brian Schweitzer speak, I thought: "This guy is going to be President." That is not a common reaction on my part to politicians. I've listened to hundreds and hundreds of Democratic politicians speak, and I've only had that reaction twice in my lifetime. The first was Barack Obama, the second was Brian Schweitzer. People have asked me what it was that made me feel so strongly in reaction, and the way I'd put it now is that Brian Schweitzer and Barack Obama are the two "new Democrat" styles that are extremely effective in the post-Clinton era. Both emphasize solutions over partisanship...His most notable one-liner is actually a counterpose to the legacy of national Clinton branding of the Democratic Party: "Gun control is you control your gun and I'll control mine."..Schweitzer is a hell of a smart guy. A soil scientist and rancher, he spent 6 years in Saudi Arabia working on irrigation projects. He speaks fluent Arabic and has an intuitive grasp of the region based on real life experience. Certainly that would open him up to the sleazy email "Manchurian Candidate" stuff, especially as the radical Islamic Hussein Osama's running mate. But he'd be asked about it and his response would have people slapping their foreheads in laughter with, "Yes! That's the perfect reply!" As far as other stats, Schweitzer is one of Al Giordano's Catholic governors. He is known for energy policy, which aligns with Obama's comments about wanting to find a running mate with executive experience and energy policy expertise...it's clear from Obama's reference to Schweitzer that he has great admiration for the governor's skill. "And how about this guy?" is how he starts out. It's obvious Obama has great appreciation for Schweitzer's talent. Obama clearly sees Schweitzer's gifts. You know Obama's thought about him as VP...One big advantage of adding Schweitzer to the ticket would be his ability to play the perfect VP role of constantly tweaking John McCain in the language that would reach the so called "working class white vote" that has the collective punditocracy...tweaking thin-skinned John McCain drives John McCain out of his mind with rage. All you have to do is quote the guy accurately and he snaps. Brian Schweitzer would keep his cool. He's very hard to rattle. http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2008/06/on-brian-schweitzer-as-vp.html Montana's five remaining undeclared superdelegates threw their support beind Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic Party's presumptive nominee for president. Their pledged votes helped the first-term senator from Illinois clinch the Democratic nomination...U.S. Sens. Max Baucus and Jon Tester, along with Gov. Brian Schweitzer, Montana Democratic Party Chairman Dennis McDonald, and party Vice Chair Margarett Campbell announced jointly that they would support Obama at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August. Poplar Rep. Margarett Campbell, who had previously endorsed Obama and then withdrew her endorsement citing party rules, finally got her chance to officially back her candidate. "Restoring hope in Indian Country — improving education, providing access to affordable health care, and creating good paying jobs — must be a priority for this country," Campbell said. "Senator Obama understands the challenges that native people face and is committed to addressing them by appointing an American Indian policy adviser in a cabinet-level position." Tester, who was elected to the U.S. Senate two years after Obama was elected to his first term in 2004, said Obama's victory bodes well for Montana. "I think Senator Obama has a great understanding of rural issues," Tester said late Tuesday night in an interview from his Washington, D.C., Senate office. "I think whether it's agriculture's role, or making this country energy independent, or whether it's the kind of infrastructure needs we have in the state, or whether it's promoting something like fishing and hunting that's of so much a value to Montanans — I think it's great for this state (that Obama is the nominee)." Tester, who narrowly defeated incumbent Republican Sen. Conrad Burns in a closely watched race in 2006, said he thinks Obama's candidacy could make for an interesting general election season in Montana. "You know how Montana works: you gotta show up," Tester said. "If he shows up he's got a legitimate chance. If he speaks to rural issues that Montanans care about, that's key. If you don't speak to Montanans about issues they care about, you're in trouble as far as getting their vote." http://www.greatfallstribune.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080604/NEWS01/806040304

Sarah Palin: Incredible Women Documentary
This are my people, they are like me. If we are ever going to change Washington DC, then we need new untainted blood such as there's. From what I've seen so far, I think that she is very intelligent, and will be a quick learner. She will do just fine. About the Governor Governor Sarah Palin made history on Dec. 4, 2006, when she took office. As the 11th governor of Alaska, she is the first woman to hold the office. Since taking office, her top priorities have been resource development, education and workforce development, public health and safety, and transportation and infrastructure development. Under her leadership, Alaska invested $5 billion in state savings, overhauled education funding, and implemented the Senior Benefits Program that provides support for low-income older Alaskans. She created Alaskas Petroleum Systems Integrity Office to provide oversight and maintenance of oil and gas equipment, facilities and infrastructure, and the Climate Change Subcabinet to prepare a climate change strategy for Alaska. During her first legislative session, Governor Palins administration passed two major pieces of legislation an overhaul of the states ethics laws and a competitive process to construct a gas pipeline. Governor Palin is chair of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, a multi-state government agency that promotes the conservation and efficient recovery of domestic oil and natural gas resources while protecting health, safety and the environment. She was recently named chair of the National Governors Association (NGA) Natural Resources Committee, which is charged with pursuing legislation to ensure state needs are considered as federal policy is formulated in the areas of agriculture, energy, environmental protection and natural resource management. Prior to being named to this position, she served as co-chair of this committee. Prior to her election as governor, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla City Council and two terms as the mayor/manager of Wasilla. During her tenure, she reduced property tax levels while increasing services and made Wasilla a business friendly environment, drawing in new industry. She has served as chair of the Alaska Conservation Commission, which regulates Alaska's most valuable non-renewable resources: oil and gas. She was elected by her peers to serve as president of the Alaska Conference of Mayors. In this role, she worked with local, state and federal officials to promote solutions to the needs of Alaska's communities. Sarah Heath Palin arrived in Alaska with her family in 1964, when her parents came to teach school in Skagway. She received a bachelor of science degree in communications-journalism from the University of Idaho in 1987. Palin, who graduated from Wasilla High School in 1982, has lived in Skagway, Eagle River and Wasilla. She is married to Todd Palin, who is a lifelong Alaskan, a production operator on the North Slope and a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, the world's longest snowmachine race. Todd and Sarah fish in Bristol Bay with their children Track, Bristol, Willow, Piper and Trig. Through Todds Yup'ik grandmother, Alaskas Native heritage plays an important role in their family. Track enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 11, 2007. Prior to taking office, Palin served on numerous boards and commissions throughout the state. She was active in her familys pursuits including serving as a sports team mom and school volunteer. She also runs marathons. Palin is a lifetime member of the NRA and enjoys hunting, fishing, Alaska history, and all that Alaska's great outdoors has to offer. Todd Mitchell Palin (born September 6, 1964) is an oil field production operator and the current First Gentleman (self-styled "First Dude") of Alaska. He is the husband of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the 2008 Vice Presidential nominee of the Republican Party. Champion snowmachine racer In 2008, 400 miles (640 km) from defending his Tesoro Iron Dog championship, he was injured and broke his arm when he was thrown 70 feet from his machine. He was sent to the hospital but managed to finish in fourth place. This race is the world's longest snowmachine race which traces the path of the Iditarod race with an extra journey of several hundred miles to Fairbanks added. He first competed in the race in 1993 and has been the champion four times. His racing co-pilot is Scott Davis. He has previously raced with Dusty Van Meter in the race, and they were co-champions in 2000 and 2002.

Evel Knievel "Loses Fight For Life"
Famous motorcycle stuntman loses liver fight. Robert Craig "Evel" Knievel was born in Butte, Montana, in 1938, the first of two children born to Robert E. and Ann Kehoe Knievel. His surname is of German origin; his great-great-grandparents on his father's side emigrated to the United States from Germany.[3] Robert and Ann divorced in 1940, after the birth of their second child, Nic. Both parents decided to leave Butte. Evel was raised by paternal grandparents, Ignatius and Emma Knievel. At the age of eight, Robert Knievel attended a Joie Chitwood Auto Daredevil Show, which he gave credit to for his later career choice, to become a motorcycle daredevil. Almost every jump he did was on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Knievel ended high school after sophomore year and got a job in the copper mines with the Anaconda Mining Company as a diamond drill operator . He was then promoted to surface duty where he drove a large earth mover. Knievel was dismissed when he made the earth mover do a motorcycle-type wheelie and drove it into Butte's main power line. The incident left the city without electricity for several hours. Idle, Knievel began to find himself in more and more trouble around Butte. After a police chase in 1956 in which he crashed his motorcycle, Knievel was taken to jail on a charge of reckless driving. When the night jailer came around to check the roll, he noted Robert Knievel in one cell and William Knofel in the other. Knofel was well known as "Awful Knofel" ("awful" rhyming with "Knofel") so Knievel began to be referred to as Evel Knievel ("Evel" rhyming with "Knievel"). He chose this misspelling because of his last name and because he didn't want to be considered "evil." Always looking for new thrills and challenges, Knievel participated in local professional rodeos and ski-jumping events, including winning the Northern Rocky Mountain Ski Association Class A Men's ski jumping championship in 1957. During the late 1950s, Knievel joined the United States Army. His athletic ability allowed him to join the track team where he was a pole vaulter. After his army stint, Knievel returned to Butte where he met and married his first wife, Linda Joan Bork. Shortly after getting married, Knievel (may have) left Butte to play minor pro hockey, joining the Charlotte Clippers of the Eastern Hockey League in 1959.[4] (hockeydb.com has no record of this.)[5][6] Realizing that he wasn't talented enough to make it into the National Hockey League and that the real money in sports was made by owning a team, Knievel returned to Butte and started the Butte Bombers, a semi-pro hockey team. To help promote his team and earn some money, he convinced the 1960 Olympic Czechoslovakian hockey team to play the Butte Bombers in a warm-up game to the Olympics. Knievel was ejected from the game minutes into the third period and left the stadium. When the Czechoslovakian officials went to the box office to collect the expense money the team was promised, workers discovered the game receipts had been stolen. The U.S. Olympic Committee wound up paying the Czechoslovakian team's expenses to avoid an international incident. After the birth of his first son, Kelly, Knievel realized that he needed to come up with a new way to support his family financially. Using the hunting and fishing skills his grandfather had taught him, Knievel started the Sur-Kill Guide Service. He guaranteed that if a hunter employed his service and paid his fee, they would get the big game animal they wanted or he would refund their money. Business was very good until game wardens realized that Knievel was taking his clients into Yellowstone National Park to find prey. As a result of this poaching, Knievel had to end the new business venture. During December 1961, Knievel, who was learning about the culling of elk in Yellowstone Park, decided to hitchhike from Butte to Washington, D.C. to raise awareness and to have the elk relocated to areas where hunting was permitted. After his conspicuous trek (he hitchhiked with a 54-inch wide rack of elk antlers and a petition with 3,000 signatures), he presented his case to Representative Arnold Olsen, Senator Mike Mansfield, and Kennedy administration Interior Secretary Stewart Udall. As a result of his efforts, the slaughter was stopped, and the animals have since been regularly captured and relocated to areas of Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho.[7] Without a way to support his family, Knievel recalled the Joie Chitwood show he saw as a boy and decided that he could do something similar using a motorcycle. Promoting the show himself, Knievel rented the venue, wrote the press releases, set up the show, sold the tickets and served as his own master of ceremonies. After enticing the small crowd with a few wheelies, he proceeded to jump a twenty-foot-long box of rattlesnakes and two mountain lions. Despite landing short and having his back wheel hit the box containing the rattlesnakes, Knievel managed to land safely.
