Today I have reports from Boca Grande, the Gulf beaches near St. Petersburg and Tierra Verde. Captain Billy Nobles of the Reel Animals reported Sailfish and Black fin tuna 40 miles off Boca Grande. Billy also reported a good Tarpon bite and super Permit fishing on the local reefs.
Captain Lil Jim reported the waters have cleared on the Gulf beaches off Tampa Bay and the snook are attacking white baits right up against the sand only 5' from the beach. Big redfish were hard to come by with only 2 over the slot fish landed by Jim, Dave and Dan. Sounds funny only 2 over the slot! Captain Jim had his lovely wife Jeanne on the boat and she scored an amazing 40" redfish. Check out the photo (tail area) and you will see the monster redfish had a close call with flipper.
Captain Tim Whitfield reported a good trout bite in the Ft Desoto area. Good to hear a positive trout report as I had trouble finding them this weekend. White bait on popping corks did the trick.
Sunday and Mondays charters I had to anchor manually as my Power Pole broke. It's was a rude awakening as I am totally spoiled with my Power Pole. While up in the tower spotting snook all I have to do is flip on the Power Pole and I am set, now I had to climb down, get out the anchor (very noisy) and figure out the drift. With my Power Pole my clients would have been fishing already! One quick call to Power Pole and I was amazed. They figured out the problem and where truly a pleasure to work with. Check them out at www.powerpole.com if you fish inshore it's a must have.
