Captain Steven has some great reports from lower Tampa Bay Wednesday. Trout in the Ft. Desoto were eager to hit white baits fished in deeper sandy potholes. Use a float to keep the bait from getting into the nearby turtle grass. Trout have a slim coat that is easily destroyed if handled. Use a dehooking device to quickly and safely return to the water if you are not harvesting them. X Tools is Captain Steven de hooker of choice.
Snook are staged on the beaches reports Captain Lil Jim. His charter today took several snook tossing white baits up next to the sandy beaches. Most fish caught in the area were in the 25" range with several bruisers over 30" taken. Beach snook can be taken from a boat or shore. I enjoy walking the shore at sunrise tossing a MirrOdine MirrOlure's. Cast almost parallel to the beach to keep the lure in the strike zone 3-10' from the sands edge. While the water feels great staying onshore and keeping stealthy will improve your strike ratios. When conditions are right you can sight fish these snook, watching a big linesider inhale your offering is thrilling.
The big redfish yes the same ones that were nowhere to be found yesterday afternoon were back with a dozen quality fish taken. White baits were the bait of choice once again.
