Late August and September are the best months to fish. Snook are in the passes in full force. Fish from 15-20 Lbs. are the norm, pushing the 30+ mark. Also, the Tarpon bite is strong. Area bridges holding fish from 60 to 120 Lbs. can be expected. The best time to target Tarpon on the bridges is at night. For the light tackle enthusiast, there are still plenty of these Silver Giants in the backwater.

Redfish and Black Drum have made a strong showing around these same areas because of the current and structure. Blue crabs and pinfish are your best bets to tackle these big gamefish around area bridges at night. Big schools of Redfish have shown up on the flats. Low water has been the most productive in catching these cruisers. Live or dead bait is the bait of choice.

Don't forget about the toothy critter, the Shark.

Bullshark, Blacktips, and Lemon Sharks can be found during the day on the flats which makes for exciting sight fishing. At night time, these fish will move to deeper cuts with more current to hunt for wounded fish.

Let Clearwater Fishing Charters and Skinny Water Charters put you on the fish of a lifetime.

Thanks,

Capt. Craig Lahr

Bio: As with most diehard fisherman I started at an early age. Growing up on the Indian Rocks Pier I learned quickly that the "Oldtimers" were vast with knowledge. They took me under their wings and shared that much needed knowledge. In 1985 Hurricane Elena took away my favorite fishing pier and with it the informal educational sessions I so enjoyed. I moved to later work as a mate on a commercial fishing vessel. In my spare time I fished off piers and the flats.

Then I met an excellent local fisherman by the name of Kenny Krohl who introduced me to "Light Tackle Sport Fishing". I learned the finer points of fly fishing and light tackle. Kenny holds several IGFA World Records on a fly rod and light gear. I have made the backwater estuaries my second home.

Come experience the joys and excitement of "Skinny Water" fishing at it's best!
