The summer heat is on in full force! The good news is its daylight at 6am so you can start fishing early. I have always loved the early morning bite. Even though the fishing in Jacksonville Florida is for the most part tidal I pick my first area depending on the tide at day break…

The fishing remains very good. There are a lot of fish in the river under the birds. Jacks/Lady fish/ Blue fish/Weak fish and Sea Trout. All you need to do is find the birds and throw a soft plastic. It's a fish on every cast.

The big Trout are still in the river also. I'm catching most of the larger fish in 10 to 20 foot of water on live shrimp and a float rig.

The Reds are every where in the creeks. From 10 inches to plenty of fish in the slot. The slot being 18 to 27 inches. The flounder are hit and miss but they are around. The gigging has been put on hold due to the dirty water.

If you don't mind the heat it's a great time to slip out early for a half day fishing trip that will certainly keep the rod bent the whole time!!!

Bio: Being a native of Northeast Florida I have enjoyed the excellent fishing and wildlife this area has to offer. I have been fishing the Jacksonville Florida area over 30 years with many a memorable fishing trip starting when I was a kid. We are in between and only minutes away from Amelia Island and St. Augustine, we can enjoy the fishing any direction. From downtown to the mouth of the ocean and all the back water in between.
