Black and red drum are still on fire in Mosquito Lagoon with some picture perfect days on the water this past week. Foggy conditions with calm winds led to some excellent sight fishing for schooled up black drum and tailing redfish.
On one trip Ron Phillips from Orange City, FL. joined me for a journey to the fogged out Mosquito Lagoon. With visibility less than a quarter mile, it was a little tricky to make it to the flat where these fine gamesters have been holding. Barely being able to see my way down following the breaking daylight and certain little island marks, we were almost instantly on schooling black drum when we arrived. With the fog so thick, all you could hear was the faint voices of a couple other fisherman hookin' up as well off in the distance. You sure couldn't see em'! We bounced around from drum schools to tailing redfish for close to 4 hours till the fog lifted around 11:00am. Ron completed a Mosquito Lagoon Slam with black drum, redfish, and a 24"trout...which was caught out of a group of tailing reds. Good job Ron!!!
What a picture perfect day on the Lagoon with tails and schools everywhere!
Here's some pictures that were taken AFTER the fog lifted!
