Yesterday's trip was a little better than Wednesdays where my clients and I could only muster 5 keeper walleye from 15-24 inches. Today we ended up with 11 perfect eaters from 16-22 inches and many throwbacks. We started off trolling crawler harnesses, landing about half the fish this way before the wind started to howl (like it has all spring). So we then switched to drifting with Lindy Rigs and floating jig-heads tipped with just a one inch piece of crawler. We have been tipping our spinners with very small pieces of crawlers because the vast majority of the fish we have caught so far this year have been feeding on wigglers. So, we have been trying to match the hatch so to speak by downsizing our offerings. Orange was the best color on the floating jig-heads. While orange beads with copper blades worked best on the spinners. The bite will only get better as the water warms up some more. My clients stopped for supper on the way back to our resort, so that's why it's just me holding the stick! See you on the water...
