This has been a very unusual spring season for dry weather in Ucluelet. Now there is a large forest fire blocking the road an the east side of Vancouver Island which will possibly take a couple of days to open. Its strange indeed since much of the US west coast had a colder than normal winter with abnormal rainfall. It seems all of Vancouver Island’s rain left to Colorado. I was just visiting there for 3 days and it was abnormal for them to get days in a row of rain in early June.
I am guessing we will get the rain at some point in the summer, but so far its been great for fishing weather. The Chinook salmon fishing was good again most of April and May in Ucluelet. It slowed down a bit around the commercial opening May 20 but has since picked up a bit. The salmon bites have been a bit sporadic but the bite has been coming on different point in the day.
Halibut fishing has been consistent the past couple of weeks. The Salmon Eye guides have been picking up limits on halibut which is 1 per person per day and 2 as the carrying limit. Our fishing guides are traveling about an hour to get the halibut and about 15 minutes or less for the salmon.
Lingcod fishing has been very good again and hopefully should continue through June. It’s often a favorite white meat for those who love seafood.
You can check out Ucluelet-Info.com or get one of our fishing packages available at https://www.salmoneye.net/site/fishing-packages.html. We have very little ocean view accommodation but still have some cabins available.
