Fort Lauderdale Fishing on Happy Day Today with Capt. Zsak

Beautiful weather here in sunny Fort Lauderdale FL. Cindy Karker and friends from North Florida chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some deep sea sport fishing here in Fort Lauderdale FL.

We stopped to purchase a dozen Goggle Eyes from T&T Bait. As we cleared our jetties we had 1.8 miles to travel to our drop off, which puts us in 120 ft. of water. Once we got to the Fort Lauderdale sea buoy, I noticed there was very little current. The rule when there is no current is to set up over a structure, so I headed to one of our artificial wrecks that sits off of Fort Lauderdale FL. With Sailfish being our main target, we put up two kites with two live Goggle Eyes from each kite and one Goggle Eye with a spin on lead from the rigger. Our first fish to appear was a Sailfish. As he swam around the right short kite bait with dorsal fin out of the water, he showed no interest in the bait. Jackson, our mate, raised and lowered the line to make the bait splash so as to entice the Sailfish, but the Sailfish was not interested and he swam away. It was still a lovely sight to see the Sailfish free swimming. Left long!!!! A dorsal out of the water – another Sailfish makes his appearance. This one grabbed the live Goggle Eye and immediately came jumping out of the water, and in doing so, he threw the hook. Hopefully, #3 would be our lucky one!!! Our next fish was a Kingfish from the right long kite, and weighed 15 lbs. Then we got a bite from our rigger bait – another Kingfish in the 10 lb. class. Afterwards another 10 lb. Kingfish was caught and brought to the boat. Finally, the third Sailfish appeared from the left short kite bait. This fish was very aggressive, immediately eating the live Goggle Eye and swimming off to the south at a fast speed. Once the line got tight, he jumped out of the water and put on a fantastic show. Cindy was finally rewarded with her Sailfish. Pictures were taken and the Sailfish was released.
