With the spring time southerly winds brings some higher water levels spreading out the fish giving anglers alot more areas to cover. Watch for the black drum to be all over the flats of Mosquito lagoon eating crabs, shrimp and clams. Your best bet once you lacate a school is a clam. Period. I've studied these fish for years and they just cannot refuse a well placed chunk tossed in front of the schooling fish. Last week I was on a school of over 150 fish in such shallow water over half of them had their backs completely out of the water with the rest tailing in 6 inches of water!

Redfish and especially trout are very active right now with the return of baitfish. During the next 2 months will be the best in the early morning for a shot at a trophy gator trout or red busting the surface. Walk the dog lures such as a High Roller with less noise when it's calmer is a good way to go. If there's a slight chop on the water go with a noisy plug. Soft plastic jerkbaits like a Rip Tide Flats Chub in darker colors have also been working well.

Give me a call for some great inshore action on the world famous Mosquito Lagoon. I am filling quickly in April but do have some days open along with May booking's already.

Bio: Growing up on the east coast of Florida I started fishing at a very early age mostly on the inshore waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Now with the experience of learning every corner of the back waters and fish behavior patterns, I am a full time fishing guide on the Mosquito Lagoon. Besides writing monthly fishing reports for my website, Coastal Angler Magazine, and various other organizations, I also enjoy working with and am on the pro staff for Rip Tide Lures, High Roller Lures, Berkley, Pure Fishing, Daiichi Hooks, and Costa Del Mar Sunglasses.
