Well I went on my first gigging trip this year Saturday night July the 5th. Flounder gigging is very addictive once you have done it a few times. The tide wasn’t exactly right and I could not find anybody to go but I had to do it….
Going solo is a little more work as far as polling the boat along in the shallows and you also go by quite a few flounder that you see a little too late.
It’s always cool to see all the other fish and marine life at night also. The water was clean except when you came thru a school of big Red fish and they scattered.
All in all it was fun. I probably saw 13 or 14 Flounder mostly small but legal size. I try not to gig them unless they are a few pounds and I only need a few for a little fresh Flounder dinner.
Out of all the Flounder I saw I picked 4 of the nicer ones. It was great fun and the fire is burning in me again now. You can gig all the way thru December in Jacksonville with good numbers of Flounder. Also in the fall the average size is 5lbs or so.
