All Hail, The Return of the King -- June 23, 2008 by Bruce W. Shuler (6/23/2008)
Time to roll out the red carpet and bow to the return of the Silver King. While I was away playing in the Louisiana backwaters, dad was busy paying homage to the large scaled silver one. The king has returned with his entourage and Captain Pete and dad were there to greet them by jumping ten fish and landing three. Captain Pete landed his first tarpon that estimated to go around 85-pounds.
Spooky and small by Jim Blackburn (6/19/2008)
Plenty of fish but super spooky and small. Water was gin clear and no one in sight.
What Time is IT...? -- June 11, 2008 by Bruce W. Shuler (6/12/2008)
The old answer would have been Tool Time and just like old Tool Man Taylor Ma Nature has decided to kick things up a notch with the old wind tunnel. I was fishing with new friends the Little Tuna and Ted Lund and the old lady buffered us with the best of the Binford 5000. UUHHHUHHHUHHHHH. And, although I feel like my ears are still ringing and I am leaning slightly forward on the balls of my feet from the constant buffering from behind, the fish are on.
Electrical Fires, Wind, Offline, Trout, Wind -- June 5, by Bruce W. Shuler (6/06/2008)
Thank goodness, server rooms are airtight. If not, the winds this week would have created a spreading forest fire larger than the mind can imagine. We are sorry we have been offline since Monday. I know I have missed a number of important emails and I am sure dad has too. If you have emailed and we did not answer, simple answer is we had no access.
Trout, Trout, and Silver King Sightings -- May 21,2008 by Bruce W. Shuler (5/22/2008)
Fishing 12 out of the last 15 days with clients’: Catch and releasing before 10:00 AM, how could it get any better? Just as my previous reports asked: Are the numbers of 17” to 20” trout we are catching due to the regulation change last Sept. or a seasonal anomaly?
Here Come The Tarpon by Bruce W. Shuler (5/10/2008)
Sorry for the late report, but fishing everyday this old FART just doesn’t feel like sitting on keyboard at the end of the day. The attached photo has been lost for a long time but I just recently found it and thought it was a shame not to share it with other fishermen.
Fisheries Imrpovement or Rose-Colored Glasses by Bruce W. Shuler (4/29/2008)
We are consistently catching good numbers of 16” to 22” trout daily: is this a result of our 5 fish bag limit started last Year?
Excuse Me...We Have an Announcement -- April 15, 2008 by Bruce W. Shuler (4/16/2008)
Mix a few friends, some great fellowship, and awesome fishing and what do you get? Quite a few oversized reds and one awesome twenty-eight inch trout. We recently hosted the Friendswood Fishers of Men Chapter from Houston, one of our tamer groups in the lodge but little devils on the water.
Harvey-Cleary Goes Large Trout and reds -- April 4, 2008 by Bruce W. Shuler (4/07/2008)
The old spinster, Ma Nature, decided to turn a cool, temperamental shoulder our way Saturday morning. Luckily, her cool breezy attitude gave way to a warm and sunny countenance that awarded us a beautiful, fish filled afternoonshe even gave us the opportunity to do some of the best sight fishing of the early season.
Aggies and Big Fish; Statement or Oxymoron? by Bruce W. Shuler (3/31/2008)
We hosted a bachelor party for 1ST. LT. Stephen just returned from serving our Country in Iraq. Thanks Lt. He and all his buddies, who by the way were Aggie's, let it be known despite them being Aggie's they CAN FISH. Now to say his deployment took away from his fish catching ability would be lying. Ten minutes into our first wade of the day he set the bar for his buddies, Father and Father-in-law by catching a 29 inch and 7 ¼# Big Girl.
Running the edge by Jim Blackburn (3/26/2008)
Water was low and clear and the fish were very unpredictable
Wind...Wind...Wind -- March 19, 2008 by Bruce W. Shuler (3/20/2008)
We continue to catch 25 inch plus trout, but with Spring Break on us look for the traffic to move the larger trout from the shorelines and out a little deeper. Returning last Wed. I was able to get in 4 days on the water before the WIND FANS started!!!!!
When it's Right it's Right!!! by Jim Blackburn (3/14/2008)
When it's right it's right. Wind, sun, tide and temperature were all perfect for sight-fishing reds in skinny water two days ago. Today would be perfect too, but had to work.
The Dreaded East Wind by Jim Blackburn (1/14/2008)
You have to be creative when the prevailing winds throw you a curve.

Reds Are Picking Up by Jim Blackburn (3/26/2007)
Even though the wind is still cranking pretty good, the fly fishing for redfish is picking up.
Tailers But Not Cigars by Jim Blackburn (3/17/2007)
Fished North of Arroyo Colorado Laguna Madre Confluence alon the intercoastal. Cloudy, with light breezes gave us a fair amount of shots to tailing redfish. Unfortunately, no flies were seen due to errant casts.
Non fishing report! OR Humble pie! by Bruce W. Shuler (3/10/2007)
After a few photos and moving another 20 feet Capt. Ted bows up on a 29” weighing in at 7 ¼#, at this point I was still feeling petty good
Girls Gone Wild! Caught on Tape! by Bruce W. Shuler (2/19/2007)
But, we were not after reds but BIG TROUT! Well you can guess, Capt. Paul pops a 26” trout and the trash talk starts.
Can you say BIG TROUT! by Bruce W. Shuler (12/18/2006)
Prior to last Wed. we have been on the water rain, actual sleet and cold chasing the BIG GIRLS. When it’s on it’s ON!!! Stats for last week before I left to go hunting:
Big Trout by Bruce W. Shuler (12/07/2006)
Conditions were nearly as perfect as a Big Trout enthusiast could want! Light winds, overcast, prefrontal and a full moon.
Hunting! Cool Weather and BIG TROUT by Bruce W. Shuler (11/29/2006)
Cool weather and BIG Trout! Looks like we will get a REAL BLAST Thursday and this should be the front that puts them in the winter time patterns.
Birthday Present - Capt Susie by Richard Weldon (11/23/2006)
Due to a strong frontal passage on Sunday morning, I was forced to cancel my charter for the day. Monday’s forecast promised to be a little better. The wind did die down to about 15-20 out of the North. My clients, Scott and his son John, from around the Houston area, were ready to get out on the water. They had what you call cabin fever after having planned on two days of fishing and forced to cancel one.
First Time Fishing For Reds by Richard Weldon (11/13/2006)
This past Monday was a great guiding day for me. I had a client that was different from any other client I’ve ever fished. His name was Doug Brady. He was born and raised in Oregon and he still lives there but only 6 months out of the year. The other 6 months, December through May, he lives in Belize, Central America. He was a very experienced flats fly fisherman, but had never before fished for redfish.
High Tide Lagoon Fishing by Richard Weldon (11/12/2006)
I went out scouting with Susie today. She has a fly fishing charter with an outfitter from Belize tomorrow and she needed to locate some fish and I wanted to show her one of my favorite fly fishing spots when the tide is right.
Big Fish Trophy - Capt Susie by Richard Weldon (11/04/2006)
Last Saturday I really had a great time guiding Lindsey from Washington State, Mike from Chicago, Jason from Denver, Mark from Austin and Jerry from Harlingen. It was a fun fishing trip because all of them are such great friends. Every time they fish together they have a fishing contest between them. They have a Big Fish Trophy that they pass back and forth and Mark was the current holder of the trophy.
Get Away Weekend - Capt. Susie by Richard Weldon (10/29/2006)
Another cool front blew through at the end of the week bringing cooler temps and clear skies. Saturday morning at 7:30 was a little eye tearing and face burning running out the Arroyo. It was around 55 degrees but felt a lot cooler on the water especially with the brisk north wind blowing.
Sneaky Afternoon - Capt. Susie by Richard Weldon (10/24/2006)
Tuesday morning we had sunshine. It looked like a perfect day for fishing. I didn’t have a charter, but wished I did. What a great day to be out on the water. Just my luck, somebody else was thinking the same thing. I got a call around 10 a.m. from a local client out of Harlingen. He said he and a friend wanted to sneak away for a quick afternoon of fishing .
