March is finally here and with it we have low water on most major systems, but signs of spring are in the air!

The Fraser River

he Fraser River remains extremely low and clear. Water temperatures are cool and there is no change in sight. Cutthroat trout continue to thrash around in the back waters offering anglers some good action when they are found. Small minnow and halfback patterns are working best but bead headed wooly buggers work well when searching out fish. Keep moving until you find them !

Sturgeon fishing continues to produce fish in a few locations through out the river but the fish are staging in groups and finding them can sometimes be tricky! Once the water warms up a little the sturgeon will begin spreading out and the fishing should turn on through out the river. Our largest sturgeon this past week was 78 inches and around 150 lbs. Book now for March and April Sturgeon action!

Sturgeon fishing is catch and release only in B.C. and all fish caught by Harrison Bay Guided Services are tagged for the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society.

Chehalis & Vedder Rivers

The Chehalis River is still on and off depending on rainfall and water flow. There have been some good reports of Steelhead when conditions are right, but overall this river needs some good fisheries management to get it back on track. The flow of the river allows very little access in the lower river and it tends to blow out quickly due to the poor logging practices of the past. There is currently a major project taking place around the bible camp to get this river back on track and running past the hatchery. Hopefully the efforts are successful and this great fishery can get back on track!

The Vedder river is in good shape and the fishing has been great as long as the visibility remains at 2 feet or more! Egg sacks, shrimp and Jensen egg and wool combos have all been producing well. We are coming into prime time for the gear fishers as the bulk of the fish are now entering the river. Due to the clay banks and unstable conditions it is a good Idea to call the local shops for an update on water clarity before heading out. Fred's Custom Tackle is located right on the river, call them toll free at 1-888-858-7344 for up to the hour conditions. (keep in mind this river can blow out in a very short time frame).

The Harrison River

The Harrison River is in average condition for this time of year. For the past week the cutthroat fishing has really picked up and with any luck the fishing will continue to be its old self. The past several years have seen some highs and lows for the cutthroat fishing, hopefully we are on the up swing! Attractor patterns are also a great way to cover lots of water without spending a lot of time in one place. There are plenty of bald eagles around and the scenery on this awesome river is well worth the trip. Steelhead are constantly moving through this system as well in the winter months, but they are typically taken as a by catch as they tend to move through with out really holding much.

Enjoy a day on the Harrison River!
