It is time for big Peacock Bass in south Florida. The weather is finally nice and the spring spawn is on. This means great fishing for Peacock Bass.
Sun Coast Kayak Sport Fishing clients have been catching and releasing great numbers of Peacock Bass up to 8.5# in a number of areas south of Miami, with many, many fish in the 4# range. This is the time for anyone interested in catching some really nice Peacocks to get out there. Most of the fishing has been in the canals south of Miami and these are producing the most consistant bite while small lakes are producing well too during this period of low water.
The top bait has been small live shiners free-lined on light tackle. Fast running crankbaits are also producing and there are many sight fishing opportunities available for fly anglers too.
