SAM RAYBURN
Rayburn's lake level is at 161 feet which is the highest it has been in over 6 months with no turbines running at the dam. Water temperatures have fallen back from mid 60s into upper 50s due to cold front but will recover somewhat by weekend. North part of the lake is stained while mid lake and south Rayburn is slightly stained to clear.
Over the weekend Bass n Bucks had their 4th event of the season out of Umphrey's Pavilion near Rayburn's dam. Approximately 175 teams (two anglers) competed with Rayburn regulars Todd Castledine and Brent Broussard winning it all and first place check of $15,000. Their top weight was 22.65 pounds and stated they caught most on a sight-fishing pattern. According to other top finishers, they fished depths of less than 6 feet with soft plastics.
Local anglers who did well included the team of George Jeane, Jr from Evans and Jerry Brittan of Leesville who finished 5th with 18.70 pounds.
The fifth and final tournament of the Bass n Buck's First Series is scheduled for Rayburn Saturday, May 30.
