Redfish are schooling well with the "colder" not "cooler" weather approaching Florida. Wintertime fishing on the Lagoon is my favorite time of the year with reds schooling in very good numbers. The water level is extremely low on Mosquito Lagoon giving the fish less places to go. Advantage:: fisherman!
When I talk about "deeper" water look for areas with 2-3 foot depths for reds to be bunched up in sand sloughs throughout the backcountry. Large live shrimp bounced VERY slowly in these areas will produce your fair share of good catches.
Soft plastic curly tail jigs will also work well this time of year. Tip: You cannot slow down your presentation enough.
Trout fishing is good in the open bays of the Lagoon with most fish just undersize, but if you find the right area holding larger fish you can really clean house. Gator trout are spooky as can be with the crystal clear water so if one of these big boys spots you first, you should forget trying to catch him. The ticket to a Gator is long casts once you locate where they are laid up.

Bio: Growing up on the east coast of Florida I started fishing at a very early age mostly on the inshore waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Now with the experience of learning every corner of the back waters and fish behavior patterns, I am a full time fishing guide on the Mosquito Lagoon. Besides writing monthly fishing reports for my website, Coastal Angler Magazine, and various other organizations, I also enjoy working with and am on the pro staff for Rip Tide Lures, High Roller Lures, Berkley, Pure Fishing, Daiichi Hooks, and Costa Del Mar Sunglasses.
