Mild temperatures and clear skies have made for some good light tackle action, reports Captain Keith Mixon (http://www.mixinworkwithplay.com/). Several slot size reds have been caught along the Eastern shores of both the Indian and Banana Rivers in one to two feet of water. On calm days, gold spoons such as a 3/8 oz Nemire's Red Ripper Gold Spoon can be used for sight casting near pot holes and other sandy areas near grass flats. Trout have continued to bite jerk baits or live shrimp under a popping cork. Most of these trout have been fifteen to twenty inches with an occasional "gator" trout. With cool water temperatures, many of these fish may feel lethargic. Patient anglers should find that a lure fished slower than normal will bring more fish to the boat. Remember, in the month of January trout season reopens.
