Spring Break. From High school to elementary school kids were off, and had no school. I ususlly look for ward to putting the younger kids on some good fishing this time of year.

But that excitment was short lived this year. Every single day, the forecast is for East winds 10-20 knots.

EAST is bad. Relentless winds made our days out on the St. Johns River in the Mayport area of Jacksonville, Florida a struggle. And coincide that with the new moon tides, which I normally would look forward too also. Made for near disasters.

Tides are very low, and very high. But the better bite is on the falling tide, and wasn't till mid morning or afternoon. Late day departures meant we fished at the peak of the wind, during the day.

Reds, Trout, and Flounder is what was caught. But the limited abilities of the kids and the limited areas where we could successfully fish in the howling wind storms as it felt like had catches of larger fish, unavailable.

I had kids and parents come from as far away as 75 miles west of Jacksonville, and of course they did'nt care for a 7am departure, so we did what we could do.

They all had fun and learned a lot. But this week could have been a lot nicer to us, especially me!

Frustration each day ran high.

Most notable catches were one day we had 5 Flounder on one spot, and others were that the kids each caught a few Redfish, with the largest fish this week a 26 inch 6-1/2 pounder.

Looking to get out of this weather pattern as fast as momma nature will allow.

Because this time of year is BIG Speckled Trout time. Although I have not seen it happen yet this week, that's for sure.

I have many days reserved with adult regulars the last few days of the month and into April.

I'm looking forward to big Trout, and less windy days, that's for sure.
