This week my good buddy Ken and I got out to do some fun sight fishing in florda bay. The day started with a slight breeze out of the southeast and hopes were high as we knew that the water temps have been coming up and so has the water level. The water was clear, there was bait moving around and sharks patrolling the flats. All good signs that there might be some nice fish on the flats. We started the morning with two large schools of redfish that were moving fast. I set the boat up in position, Ken made the cast and the lead fish of the group charged the jerk bait and missed it. These fish were moving fast and we missed the shot. School number two was our next shot, so again we set up and Ken waited for the perfect shot and after a money cast one of the fish charged the Gulp Jerkshad and missed it AGAIN! These fish were all big fish, we were not done yet though. Ken and I knew it was time to go to another spot were we know the fish will be sitting in some clear water. Sure enough after poling 30 minutes we get into the area and we had countless shots, missed some nice fish and caught some nice fish aswell. These fish were just sitting in the potholes waiting for bait to come by to just hammer it. Talk about being on the feed. Ken would drop it right in front of them twitch it once and BAM! Hooked up! All of the fish were caught on a pearl white Gulp Jerkshad rigged weedless. Presentation is the key to getting these fish to bite. The key is to always make your artificial/fly look as natural as possible. Always remember a baitfish will never go strait at the fish, always have your artificial/fly moving away from the fish.
It was a fun day and spring is definitely here and the fish are taking advantage. Therefore, lets take advantage and catch'em up!
